Samsung 4600 sounds interesting, but I think I'll stick with my 2500 lol... If they come out with a varient of that player with Reon that would be one extrodenarly compelling product though.

Samsung is a name synonymous with cutting edge technology.
LOLOLOL so cutting edge that their firmware can't keep up with their machines. Samsung is CRAP in the Blu-Ray section of HT.

Nothing here suggesting any improvement over my current PS3. I really don't understand how stand alones have any chance at making major impact when you can get a PS3 at $399.

Why did they include the EZgear Cobra at all? A complete unknown of a company releases a BR player with the same specs as really any current decent player 1.1 and they are charging $400 for it?

The Vizio sounds like a way better deal for less than half the price. Too bad I got burned so badly on a Vizio plasma for me to consider it.

The only feature that would entice me to get a standalone would have to be Netflix streaming with HQV processing. I know that Samsung makes one already but I'm wary with Samsung's BR player track record.

considering SAL's start at half the price, include functions like netflix and pandora and now with this new samsung also are capable of all the media streaming that the PS3 can do? I can imagine why people who don't care about gaming (most of the HT market probably) would want to take a pass on the PS3 at this point, particularly as players like that samsung start hitting the market.

While I use a PS3 as my main player it isnt perfect. For one it doesnt output audio from more than one source at a time like every other player there is. This limits its effectivness in some applications.

I guess the Oppo player wasn't in the roundup because Oppo didn't have an official presence at CES. But that sounds like a great player.

My only complaints with the PS3 are the blue tooth remote and more importantly the volume of the fan. I hate that fan, sometimes it is really loud!

What is a good standalone that has all of the great PS3 features (internal decoding for True HD/DTS MA, Profile 2.0, quick start up time) without the fan?

Sony S550... Personally I like the Samsung BD-P2500 though for Reon + Netflix, but it doesn't boot as fast as the sony's.
