Good review.
Some criticism, though. This is a little late. To be timely, you should be reporting on the currently available Epson 6100 and 6500 units. Also, a complete lack of images is somewhat disappointing in a review about a projector. A capture of Wall-e and Dead Space, for instance, would have been nice as they are directly mentioned in the review. Look forward to more. -comix

I've demo'd all three side by side and the newer models BLOW the 1080UB out of the water. You wouldn't notice it unless you were doing a A vs B.

That's a $2,500+ piece of gear and got seven fairly short paragraphs, no photos, and a fair bit of missing information on a projector that is generally no longer available to consumers. If this was written by someone who happens to own one, then I applaud them for sending it in. On the other hand, the Epson 1080UB has a fair bit more that should be spoken of and more material should be tested and described. Warranty, build quality, specifics of lens shift, connectivity, light leakage, black levels shadow details, white levels and white details, a few basic photos (at the very least), menu structure, menu feel, a bit more about the options available, as well as the details, details, details of what it can do. There is currently a gold standard by which all other projector reviews really must be measured: www.projectorreviews.com Specifically: http://www.projectorreviews.com/epso...cinema-1080ub/ They reviewed this model in excess of one year ago, and the model that was just reviewed is no longer even available for purchase by consumers at any of the major projector etailers. There is no mention or discussion of price, which is ultimately extremely important when considering which projector to buy. I mean, sure, you can get this great projector for about $3,000 online right now... But, the brand new 6500UB which addresses some of the issues with the 1080UB is already out and is available for $2700 after rebates from most etailers. I do appreciate the review, but I am ultimately a bit disappointed in the effort on this one. C- |

I have a 108oUB and L-O-V-E it. i just got done watching Behind Enemy Lines on my 161"Draper screen viewed on the 1080UB and the picture quality was amazing. Damn near as good as a top of the line plasma IMO.

I'm just pleased to see a review on a projector. I think it is a good start. It tells me that maybe High-Def Digest has noticed the almost 7,000 views to the "How about a Thread for the Projector Folk thread" and are trying to give customers what they want. Speaking of which, why isn't that thread a sticky?
