Got it, love it.

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Allow me to respond for certain posters.... zomg onkyo is teh suxxor.......

Now on to more rational opinions, actually this AVR really packs a lot of features but it was price prohibitive previously (at $1,000+ on amazon) and sure as hell is now that the price has been sky rocketing on amazon. Not sure what pricing on the 875 is but I think it's pretty similar to the 905

Just got a 905 hooked up, all HDMI. Cable box ( AT&T u-verse) and blu ray player and hdmi to my samsung hd tv.Great sound and pic ,BUT dont always want to have 905 on (gets hot and uses energy as you all know). Called Onkyo and they state no pass thru!!!!
Is there a way to play tv and cable w/o the receiver on?

Maybe if you just run an optical from the tv to the cable box?

Only prob w the optical cable is it's only good for 5.1 and I would want 7.1. Would I be ok to run an hdmi splitter box from the cable box split to tv and 905? longest run is 6' from splitter to tv. You'd think Onkyo would come up w a pass thru on their upper end receivers

You're not getting 7.1 out of HDTV as far as I know, so with TV signals you should be ok... The main problem is video, to be able to take advantage of the upscaling you need to be plugged into the AVR, in which case the AVR needs to be on in order to watch movies. For me the big selling point would be the video upscaling on SDTV, my toshiba TV's scalar is... okish and the one in my cable box sucks... I want something with a decent scalar, I've considered a 606 upgrade but it just doesn't make sense for me right now.
