Granted, it's on the smaller end of your 42"-52" size range but if you're used to a 12" set this won't be a problem; (plus moving your couch and/or TV stand closer as little as 6" makes a difference.)

Bottom line: Do your (HD) films justice and don't settle for anything less than the best you can afford.
As someone that started out with a vizio LCD and eventually saw the PQ benefits of plasma, i would totally second this recommendation. For $800 this panny plasma will be leaps and bounds over a vizio you could get at walmart. Also i don't know if this has changed or not, but the models that vizio used to sell at wally world were the same price as models at sam's/sears but actually had worse specs ie: fewer inputs, lower contrast. Forget the 10% discount, walmart is great for cheap food and other junk, but this is more of an investment. I liked my first vizio but it wasn't good enough. I think this panny would definitely give you the most bang for your buck!

I'd definitely wait. I can think of lots of things I'd rather do with my girlfriend instead of watching tv. If you get a nicer tv it'll be 5 hour marathons of "Project Runway". If you don't it could be a 5 hour marathon of (use your imagination).

A tv can really suck the life out of a relationship.

Save up for later, enjoy your time now, then you can enjoy a better tv in the near future.

I am frankly surprised by the overwhelming number of positive reviews. I haven't looked at a Vizio for over a year as they were pretty "un-impressive" back then. Guess I'll have to take a closer look at their newer models.

From that list, I've picked out the Vizio to try to pitch to her to purchase. The other TVs on that list are Sanyo, Polaroid, RCA and AOC, and I'm not in love with any of those brands either. Couple of questions:

-Is 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio good?
-Are any of those TVs potentially better than the Vizio?
    -Any recommendations from that list?

    Thanks guys!
I did my research before I purchased my Vizio and it was the best purchase I ever made when it comes to tv's. Its defanitly the bang for your buck when it comes to prices. Get a

Vizio is ok. It gives you decent PQ. Does it give you ultimate bang for the buck? My answer is NO.I'd spend a little more money and/or wait some time for a better deal on a different brand than settle for a vizio TV. But that's just m. Its just like asking people "if Hyundai makes excellent vehicles?"

Vizio sucks...but Hyundai is actually making a huge effort. Your Hyundai opinion is about 10 years old...sit in a new Genesis, you'll see.

Great entry level HDTV. Especially for those not looking to break the bank on a tv purchase.
To buy or not to buy? That is the question....

Lol you're right but at that point I was in a very small bedroom and it really made it impossible to move in the room. Don't worry it just got moved into my parents living room so they're enjoying it now.

Doing a little research you will find that the vast majority of Vizio owners are very happy with their purchase. I own the 32" Vizio Plasma and think its great, truly the best bang for my money. Consequently most of the people who don't like the brand don't even own the product.

Onkyo has some high-end receivers, though, making them competitive with the likes of Pioneer, Denon and Yamaha.

I also remember reading somewhere that Vizio has also expressed interest in the higher end display market.

Wow, that's rather ambitious but more power to them for trying right? Wasn't Olivia trying to be a high end oem?
