Unhappy Optical Cable Issues...360, A30, Z-5500.

So I just got my Z-5500 and I am trying to get everything hooked up...

I have three of these cable; http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

This adapter; http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I was going to to hook the A30 up directly through Optical, and have my 360 run optical to that converter box, then coaxial to the Z-5500. But I am having alot of problems with the optical cables (all three are the same type, link above, but are 1.5ft 3ft and 6ft). The first time I tried hooking them up to my 360 it wouldn't go in all the way, and I was trying not to force it too much because those cables are expensive.

Then I tried plugging an optical into the adapter...it ended up breaking the plastic mount inside the thing after I tried pushing it in (wasn't really forcing that either). So I am wondering if all of these cables are just f-ed up and won't fit like regular ones (http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2).

So now I have to contact Monoprice and tell them how their cable's don't fit in ANY of my devices and they also will not fit in their own adapter.

Any suggestions in how to solve this? Are the second Optical cables I posted just as good as the metal jacketed ones? I need help! I wanna listen to my stereo!!!

Thanks all....

On average, a cable is a cable is a cable. Unfortunately, you paid for a little fancier cable that apparently doesn't work as expected. The 2nd cable should deliver just as good DD, DTS or 2-channel PCM as the first one.

So...Issue solved...kind of...

I will admit, I am RETARDED.

SO, turns out the plastic bumps at the end of the cables are protective ...didn't know that...just that that was how they worked.

Feel free to laugh.

So I broke the $12 adapter, and I still can't get one to fit into my 360 (I think I might have forced it just enough to push the optical port into the housing).

I suck.

Nope, he's not. I've had comments to the same effect from people looking to buy optical cables.

Man, that really sucks. As I read your post I immediately was thinking... "Did he try to put the cables in with the plastic covers still on?"

Yeah, that wouldn't be the best way to do things. I hope you are able to get it resolved and working. I do use those exact same products (more or less) from Monoprice to get audio from my PS3 down to my equipment rack over coax. They work beautifully, so if you are able to get the connections right, you shouldn't have issues.

Good luck!
