Default Need help with Onkyo 605 & PS3

I have the Onkyo 605 with 5.1 speakers. I have my PS3 set on Linear PCM. I have an HDMI cable from my PS3 to my reciever, and one from my reciever to my TV. What are the optimum settings to get the best sound out of your system? There's maybe one or 2 bluray movies that I've heard that sound extremely good on my system, Live Free or Die Hard, I Am Legend, and just a couple more. Alot of blurays out there come with good sound, but It seems like I'm doing something wrong and that I'm still not getting all the great sound my system has to offer. Anyone out there that has the Onkyo 605 that gets very very good surround from bluray movies. I would appreciate if maybe you could give me a break-down of all your settings to see where I can adjust mine and see if it helps.

Have you cycled through "display" on the 605? How many channels does it say it's receiving? 5.1? etc? Additionally are you manually selecting the best tracks when playing these movies? I think with I Am Legend you need to manually select true HD. Also have you run through the auto speaker setup? Be sure to do that if you haven't, it'll make a big differnece.

Yes, I have already gone through Audessy auto setup. And I do choose the proper Audio when watching blurays, (TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc). I usually leave the display on Multi-Channel. I also have messed around with making the back speakers louder and lowering the fronts. Since that is my main problem. Other than those 2 movies I mentioned, I usually don't get alot of surround audio coming from the back speakers.

What guage speaker wire are you using? Upgrading to 14 guage really helped me quite a lot.

Sorry for not giving you a useful answer for that question. It's the regular speaker wire, 2 little cables attached together that you peel, one is (-) and one is (+). It's the old school wire I guess. Do you actually hear alot of background in the back speakers the way it's supposed to sound? Would you be able to tell me your settings you have from the actual set up menu?

By the way, I'm liking the setup you have in your pics. I should post some of mine.

OK...

(1) Maybe 30% tops of a movies soundtrack comes from the rear speakers, usually it's far less. The surrounds are meant to provide ambient sounds and aren't nearly as active as the center & fronts. Action movies are best known for utilizing the rear speakers.

(2) Speaker wire gauge is related to distance. The longer the distance, the higher gauge you need due to loss of power. I'd suggest ordering some new wire from monorprice. I personally used 12 gauge just to be safe.

Take my advice with a grain of salt I don't pretend to be an expert, maybe you could PM Josh Z or Mr. Speakers, maybe you'll get lucky and a certain beautiful Princess (winky winky KlipschGirl) will help you. They'll be able to explain much more in detail.
