Question Suggestions for budget sub and center?

I'm hoping that for my birthday I can get an onkyo 606 and some of the insignia speakers I've seen talked about in some posts. My question is though if i go with this setup what should I use for a subwoofer. In case you can't tell I'm on a pretty strict budget. Also I'm not fond of the idea of using one of the insignias as a center channel. The room isn't very large if that helps at all. So suggestions on a budget friendly center and sub? Thanks in advance!

P.S. First post for me!

You can check out Crutchfield for some budget speakers and subwoofers. They have a few that might work for you. Welcome to the forum.http://www.crutchfield.com/g_12300/P...&osp=&skipvs=T

For ultra budget subs that sound pretty good, Dayton is not bad or Infinity or Velodyne..

Building it yourself would be cool and can save a bunch, but if you are not a handy man (like me) than the others I mentioned are something you may want to look into to.

Best budget sub, the seller will take $200. I own the sub and it is nice.

That one is quite amazing but it sounds like a $200 may be a bit much for his given situation.. But a $200 sub designed/co designed by Dr. HSU is quite the steal imo

Since you mentioned you have a small space, have you looked at the Infinity TSS-450s on eBay? You can probably pick up a full 5.1 set (speakers/sub) for about $150ish.

Question Alternative

I know no one likes HTIBs but considering my severly limited budget would the Onkyo HT-S6100 be a good alternative to the Insignias. They have really jumped up in price recently. I can't post the link to the Onkyo set-up. Does anyone know if this is the same receiver as the 606? It certainly looks to be. Would I just be better off to buy the 606 and add speakers as I can afford them? Any opinions will be appreciated!

Just wondering? What is your total budget for what you're looking to spend. And you say you have limited space as well, would a 5.1 setup be squeezed?

I hate how they make it so hard to find what's in the HTIB...but it does look like it might be the 606, but please don't quote me on that? I'm only going by what I saw for its specifications.

The receiver is really important. What I did was get a 605 + decent speakers. The 605 will be able to last me a long time, whereas I can improve the speakers when I get out of grad school but the 605 will still be great and work. (BTW, I spent $850 for my 605 + speakers, just saying if that's near your budget >_>)

if your going with the insignias you have to use one on its side as a center if you want your front to be timbre matched....i would just plop it on its side...

they will sound better then the onkyos or the other suggestions for the price, i understand you not wanting a speaker lying on its side and all but if you want the best sound thats what you should do

imo

and i do own a set of these speakers...they are nice to look at w/o the grill on
