I have a 720p Ax200 and a 1080p AE3000. The contrast ratios are 6000:1 and 60,000:1 respectively. If I have a bluray playing in the room with the AX200 will I take it out of the player and walk down the hall just to see it in 1080P? Nope! Do I see a difference between the two projectors viewing the same material? Definitely. Is it a huge difference? Nope! It is my guess that you won't see a huge difference either. This may be blasphemy in times when it is hard enough for consumer electronic companies to survive, but my thought is unless you have money to burn, don't leave a good party looking for a better one, because, at best, it will only be incrementally better.

I've had a CRT projector for a long time but because I have a very small house and can't put it to ceiling I had plans to replace it with an LCD toy that is light enough to hang from ceiling. I got that when my father upgraded his projector for a FullHd-model so it's only a HD Ready-projector but good enough since I watch my Blu-Rays at my fathers place anyway.
At first the thought that I should put my system into the bedroom wasn't so serious because I have bedroom upstairs and it's so low that it has lopsided ceiling, when it's high enough in the middle to walk by the wall it's only about 1.1m (less than four feet) from the floor. But because I really do watch most of my movies in bedroom I ended up moving my theater there. Material used in walls and ceiling is particle board so installation wasn't that hard. I made a stand for the projector from wood that was around already so it costed nothing, it's above the bed and because of lopsided ceiling I can touch bottom of it if I raise my hand up when I lie in bed. I feared beforehand that it would be too close but it hasn't bothered me while watching movie or sleeping. For cables I installed some industrial cable channel that was around on the ceiling, it's not pretty but it was cheap (whole room/house is such that appearance doesn't mean much). Since I already had a pc as a picture source, cables, some old receiver and speakers only thing that I needed to buy was a screen since I couldn't move old fixed screen to bedroom. For that I took the cheap way, went to IKEA and bought a TUPPLUR blind. It's not the best screen that there is but it's cheap (and universal, since IKEA is almost everywhere). A real screen (or thicker blind) is better obviously but that gets the job done. I will buy a real screen at some point but this will do for now, waving doesn't bother me at all. For some it will ruin the picture but I don't notice it. Because of the lopsided ceiling I couldn't get as big picture as I wanted, I had to settle for 1.8 meters (6 feet) wide picture but since viewing distance is less than three meters (10 feet) I don't need binoculars to see picture. Only problem is that it isn't as high up as I would have wanted but to get it higher would have put it too close to the bed. I must say that I'm very pleased for this change, I have used the projector so much more after it. |

How big is that space? Is it a basement or an addition to the building?

Sorry but my bedroom isn't very photographic and that installation didn't help the situation, it is function over form or something like that. Not pretty but does the job.

Haven't done any posts for a while so thought I'd contribute to the thread: I just finished painting and putting up crown molding in my Man-Cave. So here are some pics.
The room is 10x 11. I have a AX200 wall mounted throwing to a 77" diaginal screen that drops down in front of my 52" "computer monitor" from 7 feet away. (THX seating distance.) Let me know what you think of the wall color. ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07 ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07 ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07 ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07 ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07 ![]() By bujee1, shot with DSC-H1 at 2009-10-07
