I'm about to paint my ceiling the same dark jade green color as my walls (replacing eggshell white, WTH was I thinking?). The black levels were distrupting me a bit, so this should help more than a bit. Especially with my screen being a foot from the ceiling. I'll come back and post my judgments later.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Cochise Guy! Look at you!
100 inches right out the gate! Welcome to the addiction!
Excellent choice for a first projector. My brother has a AE700 with over 4000 hours on it and it is still going strong.
I'm conducting an experiment with my AX200. I'm going to put it in my den. (It's only 10x11ft !) Will post pics when I'm done. I'm calling it the "No-excuse-not-to-have-a-projector-because-your-room-is-too-small-theater."
The name needs a little work but you get the idea.My Theater:

I recently completed my set-up with a 106" Da-Lite High Power Manual Screen (Model B). Does amazing things for the image. Everything is now more defined, sharper, brighter, richer... it's like a whole new projector. Will post some pics soon.

AV Science, the folks who run/own AVSforums, sold it to me. You have to call them to order, though. Under $300 shipped.

Here are pictures of my theater since we painted about one month ago:
The entrance

Sorry my camera kinda sucks. Not sure why I kept getting the little phantom spots. I did clean off the lens...

Oh ya, I put up some sound absorption panels too.

Painting the room made such a difference with the image!

Very nice. I am always tempted to go with "theater seats" because it looks so badass. However I still prefer the comfort of a couch. I like to be sprawled out when I watch stuff I guess.

Just curios how high is your ceiling? and do you like the JVC RS1?
-

I think the ceiling is 8'. The RS-1 is fantastic! It's quiet and the image it projects is amazing! It really has far superior blacks to most projectors out there (unless you want to spend crazy money). The colors are pretty darn accurate out of the box too, only had to do some minor tweaking.

Oh man, trust me, I've got the whole tight money situation going on too!

My last big purchase was the projector which I bought last August (you know just about the time the $hit really started to hit the fan). I guess it's good that I bought it when I did though because there's no way I would spend that kinda money on the projector and screen right now.
Thanks for your nice comments. I was really trying to go with a clean look with all in wall wiring and all the equipment in the closet. Eventually I'd like to get a rack with some sort of ventilation/exhaust system so that I can put the doors back on the closet. I keep them off for now because the equipment gets really warm and I worry about damaging something.
And as for the jealousy part, trust me, for a long time I was looking at people with front projection systems wishing I had one. You'll get yours in time, all good things go to those who wait, right? And plus by the time you get one it will be better and cheaper than mine!

The No Excuses Theater for those who haven't taken the leap
I have a small room that I call my "Den" or "office" or even my "Man cave" that is only 9ft 6" by 11 ft. After upgrading my theater projector to the AE3000 I'm left with the AX200 as a "spare". I've only had it for a year now but I'm sure I wouldn't get my money's worth if I sold it. Besides, it is still an amazing projector.
So here's a wild idea: Set it up in my den.
I had to take several measurements and make some dificult decisions with the stuff I already had in the room. I have a 52 inch Mits LCD that I use as my computer monitor and my old Onkyo 605 reciever, a 40g PS3, XBOX 360, PS2, Original XBOX, Toshiba A2 HDDVD player, my home theater PC, and a Sony DVD recorder/VCR.
Would I get rid of the TV? Would I set up the screen on another wall? Where would I sit? Could I get a corner group in this room? If I set up the screen on another wall, would I have to get another reciever and speakers to go with it?
Sometimes the simplest approach is best.
I got rid of the original XBOX and bought a electric drop down screen to go over the TV. The HDDVR from the theater feeds the TV as well as the computer and the DVD/VCR only but everything else can go to the TV or the Projector.
Here are the Pics....

I got the screen from Elite Screens clearance section. It is a 4:3 84inch 1.1 gain VMAX electric screen. the 16:9 image is 77 inches diagonal.
The screen cost me $235 The "projector mount" cost me $8. My cost for the upgrade less than $250.
The AX200 is selling these days for $950. That means for $1200 you can upgrade to a 77 inch big screen!
If you have a surround sytem and a small room you have "No Excuse" not to have a projector.Last edited by bujee1; 04-05-2009 at 12:15 PM.
