HD DVD vs. PS3 Blu-ray connected by HDMI switch
Recently got the PS3/Blu-Ray installed along with the earlier Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player.
The difference in PQ was negligible. The major drawback in the Toshiba is the boot time which is about as fast as a PC. The PS3 takes time but did seem to be faster, although operating it with the game controller was but awkward for an old timer. I was able to switch back and forth using an external HDMI switch.
Overall, compared to upscaling DVD players ( with standard DVD), the difference were impressive with both the HD DVD and PS3/Blu-Ray.Last edited by dynamite; 03-14-2007 at 03:31 PM. Reason: spelling of Blu-Ray

Yeah, first thing I did when I bought a PS3 was bought a remote to go along with it ($25).
But before you get ripped apart, it's HD DVD and Blu-ray. Everyone gets pissed if you don't spell it that way haha.
Glad to see you're happy with both of your purchases though

The two formats are pretty much identical in terms of abilities/PQ, the only factors to consider are the players and what video/audio codec the individual disks use.
But it's good that you can enjoy both, many people around here (myself included) are biased towards one format or another and as a result our choice of movies suffers."The war is not over"
Universal, now Paramount...FOX anyone?

Blu-Ray
Thanks for the correction on Blu-Ray. Never really looked at the spelling closely.
I guess typing BLUE Ray is the equivalent of belching at the table...
Blu-Ray.
I just remember that it is the shorter wavelength BLUE light that enables the higher optical density. I guess Spelling BLU instead of BLUE was the marketers contribution toward "compression."
Thanks. -
