New Reciever or Not?
I really need some help deciding about a new receiver, I've had probably one of the first RCA DD5.1 receivers I think I bought it in 98 or 99 and it still works great I'm amazed it's lasted this long. I'm in Canada and would love to get the 605 but it's $750 here which is out of my price range at this point ( doing a lot of reno's that's just taking priority)
Any way's I guess the big thing is how good is it really to have something like PCM 5.1 uncompressed compared to a thx/dd/dts receiver? I was at FS and they have an open box Pioneer VSX-1017TXV-K on for $299, Visions has the Sony strdg810 for about $100 more.
Any Idea's in this $300-400 range?
I have to say I think I've been living in Ignorance as my current receiver still sounds decent to me, not much to compare with though. My HD DVD List

How hard would it be to order a 605 from the US and have it sent to Canada?

Keep checking eCost.com for Onkyo receivers (which aren't in stock right now). It wouldn't hurt to e-mail them to see how their Onkyo restocking is coming along.
I got my factory refurbished 605 from them for $260+$30. No joke.
TigerDirect seems to ship internationally too. You can get a brand new 605 for $389 shipped. Check it out.Sell me your used BDs!!

ps3 setup
Hey Guys,
First time poster and kinda off topic, but i have a quick question for all the hd audio gurus. i have just brought myself a new home theater, consisting of a KDL40X3100, SR7002 amp, Ps3. my question is, the marantz sr7002 has built in decoders for the hd audio. do i set the ps3 to output at pcm or bitstream? i have played around with both and im not noticing alot of difference between the two.
also when i check to see what the audio is outputting from the ps3 it says dolby true HD, which is fine and a sample rate of 48khz. does the hd audio sample above the 48khz range or is that normal? (dumb question probably try and reframe from laughing)
any help or info would be great, and sorry for going off topic.
Brad.
p.s. im running HDMI for all connections. -

To peterhefer1: I bought my Onkyo 805 on Ebay and didn't have any problems. It wound up costing me about $500 less than if I'd gone to an audio store here (and this includes, taxes, shipping and duties). It was definitely worth it.
To B_rad: first, great amp. Second, the PS3 cannot bitstream TrueHD (if I remember), so if you're listening to that, you'll have to pick PCM. If I'm wrong and it can, pick Bitsream and you'll see TrueHD on your receiver.
Third, 48khz is normal. Going to 96khz would increase the sound quality, but by the same token take up more space. -

London Drugs also has the Sony STRDG-910 for $399 locally, after researching it will also do PCM 7.1 over the HDMI input.

Thanks for your help mate, when i set the ps3 on bitstream i only get the dolby digital logo, not the trueHD so i dont know must be pcm. also how do i go about increasing to a sample rate of 96khz? is it through the ps3 or through the amp? also when you say take up more space, what exactly do you mean by that. (another dumb question lol)
cheers.
Brad.
