Calibration Disc
I Have a Monster calibration disc, would this be good enough to calibrate my Samsung fpt-5884 (Plasma). Or should I go to best buy and get one of their techs to do it professionally ? I want to get the best picture possible and most of all I don't want to burn out my system.

(smiles) You better do it yourself.. I've seen those BB techs. Maybe your's are better than mine..

Try it yourself. I've not used the Monster disc, don't have a clue if it's any good or not. Sorry.
I've Avia, and well, I did really badly, the first 3 or 4 times. I got fingers, and they touch other things like butter, before they touch the handy dandy color films needed to calibrate colors.
yeah, I know, wash the damn hands. I've learned.
I know that Monster claims to be easier. I don't know that it translates as better.
Just try it, if it don't work, try it again, if it don't work, ask BB for a quote, then check with local specialty HT shops, where they don't have huge store fronts, but focus on HT installs specifically. It'll cost ya.
Just try, you can only fail, and that's better than not trying.
I keep telling myself that, cause I failed so many times...finally succeeded though.HT #1: JVC 36" CRT, AV JVC RX-7010V, Denon DVD-1910, Directv Tivo (R15), Sanyo VHS, in wall speakers w/Klipsch Sub, Wii.

I mean a professional calibration involves going into the service menu and all that. so it's really a totally different deal. the "calibration" discs are very limited compared to a "real" calibration, but can certainly be useful.

True, still....best buy?
I'm biased, I guess. I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said "I'd never join organization who'd have me as a member"
It's humorous, yet I apply that to Best Buy HT techs. I'd never have someone calibrate my HT who'd hire me to do the same for others. I'm limited in that area. I had another big box store calibrate my family room HT, and I ended up having to re-do it, right after they left, and again, I'm only still a learner.HT #1: JVC 36" CRT, AV JVC RX-7010V, Denon DVD-1910, Directv Tivo (R15), Sanyo VHS, in wall speakers w/Klipsch Sub, Wii.

Please remember that calibration disc's DO NOT CALIBRATE the TV per say.
It calibrates the problems incurred by the DVD player.
How many DVD players made today are accurate?
Some have white crush problems
Black Level problems
and so on. -

DVE: HD Basics comes out on both formats 3/25...that is if it doesn't get pushed back. I have really high hopes for this version. The last DVE had all the instructions on the SD side and never explained all the HD patters. You had to read a massive book to understand how to use them.
So IMHO just use the Monster one for the time being. The only thing pro's can do that you can't is change settings in the service menu which YOU SHOULD NEVER GO INTO. I've only been in mine to see my hrs on on plasma when I was workin' on a break-in period.
Hopes this helps!Proud Member of the DC Fanboy Club -

No, I would not.
Like I said you corrected for the DVD player, not the TV.
Then connection types make a difference, so if your using HDMI then component etc for your broadcast stuff, it will be different.
For blacks and whites I like to use shopping channels. They use a solid black or white screen bottom for pricing.
Then cartoon network to get colors and help with tint.
