Question THE A/V receiver to have

Any rumblings as to the 2008 great AV receivers people are watching out for? The only receivers in 2007 that caught my eye were by Onkyo because of their reasonable price, but reviews have been mixed on their HDMI performance. I'm not looking to put $2,000 into it, but anything a grand or below with at least 2-3 HDMI inputs would be swell.

"Gosh Lois, I can't believe he said, 'swell'."

No doubt it's the Pioneer Elite SC-09TX, but that's $7000

Under $1500 is the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH or even the VSX-92TXH

That one is pretty good too.
    Gone forever, at this point.

    Over the Denon separates?
    http://www.audioholics.com/news/trad...-a-v-separates

    I'm not sure about that!

Really though - we have the same brands who have been on top of the list for years still doing well. I've heard some HDMI audio issues have appeared in the cheaper Pioneers, but the Denon, Yamaha, and Pioneer models tend to lead the pack. I recently installed a AVR-2308 (Denon) which worked perfectly for all HDMI sources - as was expected.

I really am hopeful that Denon will update this to a new model with full HD audio support. It is the perfect product for a really high end theater...

Mmmmm... Proper rack mount design, 7.1 balanced XLR outputs, basic HDMI/digital switching, RS-232 control, and a great price. Perfect! I don't need two inputs for anything, just one - and a receiver that can get the job done.

I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TH & love it. No HDMI issues on the 94 series.

If you pair it up with the HD-A35 Toshiba HD DVD & the Pioneer Elite 95HD you can bitstream the Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA. On my system you definitely can hear the difference. It sounds richer & fuller. Like hearing uncompressed PCM or Dolby TrueHD for the 1st time.

I've had the HD-A35 for about a month now & my Pioneer Elite 95HD arrives this week. I'm in audio heaven. I can't wait for my 60" Kuro Pioneer Elite Plasma to get here tomorrow. My Christmas came early this year.

You can find the Pioneer Elite for about a grand online even though the list price is $1600. It has 3 HDMI in & 1 out & supports 24fps on the output. It also comes with an Ipod cord to plug in your Ipod. It also comes with Media center to stream your music or pictures thru the receiver along with internet radio.

It also supports XM HD & Sirius.

It helps when your best friend is a Pioneer Elite dealer. So you're right about the lucky part.

What about the Yamaha RX-V1800. I have seen a few reviews on this receiver and it has been getting good mentions. I love my current Yamaha.

The latest S&V mag has a review for the Yamaha V1800. Overall the review was positive and the receiver got their S&V recommendation stamp. Under cons the receiver got dinged for old fashion onscreen interface, one crossover setting for all speakers, and the dock wont pass video from the latest Ipods.

    Hope this helps.
