Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash.
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

Thats a work of beaut there Frey. I especially like how you have the second row setup for viewing while having a meal or the munchies. That is excellent when watching sports. Do ya have HD cable sourced to the projector as well??

I moved a few weeks ago, in large part cuz I wanted a serious setup. Turns out the living room was almost perfect for a 108" screen and a JVC X30 projector. The room still needs accoustic adjustment, and I've bought some of the grey stuff they hang in studios that'll go up soon, hopefully this weekend. The carpet on the floor helped a lot.
It has, of course, been professionally calibrated. The computer was connected to both the sensor in front of the screen and my Lumagen scaler. The guy is ISF, THX and so on certified, so he knows what he's doing. He even developed the screen I have in cooperation with the Danish manufacturer. The result is as good as 100% correct colour reproduction. You could colour grade a movie in my living room! I think that sort of result is pretty boss for a setup that's not too far out of reach for the average Joe. I was lucky getting the scaler used for about $1000 though.
I still have some moving mess to deal with, and the wall to the left of the screen will be adorned with some shelves where the Mac Mini will have its place one day. The looong HDMI cable going from the scaler to the projector will be dealt with appropriately soon.
Equipmental list:
Projector: JVC X30
Scaler: Lumagen RadianceXD
Screen: Lissau TrueColor 108"
Receiver: Marantz SR4001
Amplifier: Creek Audio Evolution 2
Blu-ray player: Oppo BDP-83
Speakers: DLS R55
DAC w/ asynchronous USB: Musical Fidelity M1 DAC
Cable-tv: Smart TV tuner from Stofa
AM/FM/DAB Tuner: Cambridge Audio 640T
Server: Mac Mini medio 2009
Consoles: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii
Streaming: Apple TV 3, Boxee Box, Roku 2 XD
Cables: Black Rhodium Rhythm (sound interconnects), AudioQuest (HDMI, etc.) and so on.

You really need to put more carpet down and paint the walls much darker. You're killing the contrast performance that your JVC could give you. Having owned two models (RS20 and RS40) I can tell you how much of a difference it can make. While JVC's D-ILA technology isn't for me, it can really blow you away in the contrast department. I've switched to a high end DLP and am MUCH happier overall.

I bought the best projector I could. Obviously a high end DLP would be better
This is pretty damn good though, and I can't say that I'm unhappy with my studio grade colour accuracy
As for the walls, I'll be putting up some sound dampening material I've already bought. Some behind the couch and some in the ceiling. That white wall to the left of the screen will have some black shelves/cupboard thingies put on there, where I'll be storing game pads and stuff. It has to be a compromise between a living room and a home theatre, so I won't be going 'all out'. -

I can't take the credit for that
It was the calibration guy who did everything really. I'm a good customer at his store and I've put down some serious dough with them, so he almost bent over backwards. He hadn't done the automatic calibration before, so that was on the house.

That's awesome! I wish I had a local guy like that to start a relationship with. As for the comment from the guy above - I'm not sure if I read that the wrong way, but it came across pretty douchey. It's true that, if you have a dedicated theater room, then darker is better - but not all rooms are going to lend themselves to such. No idea what that garbage about getting a higher end projector is about, and why that has any business being included in a response to your post. Semi-elitism has no home in this thread. You got a great setup going, congrats!

I bought a new tuner yesterday. I hated the old Cambridge one I had. This one matches the amplifier

Here are a few pics of my "Bronco Cave". Still in the works with the painting and decals. Gonna do the Denver Broncos ring of fame and a few Fat heads, posters, and signed jerseys. But not too much to where it becomes tacky or takes away from the main focal point of the room. The equipment closet also houses the equipment for my LV room and kitchen.

Nice! JVC X30

Get a Lumagen RadianceMini and hire a guy to come do a calibration. You'll go nuts when you see the improvement.
