Default DVD Recorder with Hard Drive

Im looking for a DVD recorder with a hard drive or just a DVR. My price range is $300 or under. Im just tired of giving comcast $10 a month for their DVR. I found this at wally world : http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5663214

Im guessing I should make sure that whatever I buy has a digiital tuner right? Is a typical DVD recorder easy enough to use that I could stay away from spending $300 on something like a DVR?

While it's not available any more, I bought my parents the Pioneer DVR640H-S for Christmas last year. They're not tech people, and they've had no problems working it at all--they've even learned how to edit video to remove commercials, and burn the result to disc. I'm not sure if Pioneer replaced that model with a new one, but if you can find it, the Pioneer is really great.
    Gone forever, at this point.

If that Philips one can also tune to QAM HD channels over cable, that's an awesome box right there.

You can find the Pioneer DVR650H, which, I'm guessing, is a step up from the 540...
