I need help picking a receiver, I'm quite lost....
Let me first say I'm not any expert in sound I know enough to get by as I work at Future Shop(but not in home theatre) and I just recently finished buying all my speakers. I know what I have for speakers is pretty high end stuff , now I want to take advantage on these speakers which I bought piece by piece over the past couple months.
Current setup:
-Polk RTi10 Towers
-Polk CSi5 Centre Channel
-Polk FXI3 Surround Speakers
-Polk AM1055-A Subwoofer
-Piece of crap Sony home theatre in a box receiver from two years ago that is the thorn in my home entertainment centre.
-Toshiba HD A2
-Xbox360
I've been looking at a few models and I'm looking for suggestions as to which one is the best for my system. I mostly only watch movies with my speakers but it would be nice to have them for music as well but their primary use is for sure movies.
Option 1: Denon AVR888 Price: $780 Canadian
Option 2: Denon AVR988 Price: $1000 Canadian
Option 3: Used Yamaha HTR-5990 Price: $700 Canadian
Option 4: Pioneer Elite VSX-9120TXH-K Price: $930 Canadian
That's the list I've been looking at, unfortunately my Future Shop only carries HK, Yamaha, Denon, Sony, and Pioneer receivers so I haven't been able to have a look at anything else yet but I'm open to ordering something online, my price point is right around $1000 Canadian which I'd like to stick as close to possible as.Home Theatre Setup:Sony 46' EX710 LED TV, Pioneer VSX-917V Receiver, Polk CSi5 Centre Channel, Polk RTi10 Tower Speakers, Polk FXi3 Rear Surround Speakers, Polk PSW10 Subwoofer,250 GB PS3, XBOX 360
Blu-Rays: 232
HD DVD's: All sold

Personally, my choices would be between the Elite and Yamaha; but while the 5990 accepts multi-channel signals, the Elite accepts the new HD audio codecs if you feel that's an advantage.
Best of luck and enjoy.M. Enois Duarte

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash.
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

You might also look at the Yamaha 6190, also. Either that or the Pioneer. They're both great and will do hi-def audio. The Yamaha's a bit pricier, but they're both completely worth it.

Hey, check out the Sony's STRDG910 7.1 HDMI
You should be able to order it through futureshop, since I know they sell the 710, 800 and other models.
I love this receiver, and it will pass through audio + video over hdmi with THREE hdmi Ins... beats most receivers in that department. I got mine for $499 CAD. Was a online only sale through best buy. They normally retail around $650. -

the VSX-9120TXH-K is NOT an ELITE model, it is from the Pioneer line.
it is still the one i too would recommend though, great specs for that price, particularly as a CDN MSRP
i believe the model number is unique to best buy and future shop as none of the other Pioneer line have hdmi audio capabilities
it is hdmi 1.3 with dolby truehd and dts-ma decoding, 130 watts x 7 and thx select certification

and remember not to buy any hdmi cables from them!
maybe you can haggle them down to $899? -
