Which reciever is right for me?
Ok the two recievers I am looking at are...the Sony STR-DG910 7.1, now this reciever is not marked with Dolby True HD but i have been told that since the HD DVD player docodes it on its own that is not necessary. I like the power of this model and if it truly can deliver Dolby True HD and DTS-HD then i am deffinatly in... but then there is the Onkyo TX0SR605. This player is marked with the Dolby True HD and the DTS-HD signs so I guess it will deffinatly work with this player... but the reciever does not have as much raw power as the Sony player does...They are the same price on the websites i am looking at can anyone help me?

input wise, do they offer the same and also, what kind of speakers do you currently have?

the sony (I got it) offers 3 HDMI inputs, while the Onkyo only offers 2.
That itself, was enough for me to go for the Sony. (PS3, DVD HD, HD PVR) 3 component In's aswell -

About power, the Onkyo 605 DOES have MORE power than the Sony 910. Ignore the "power output ratings" on these receivers. They don't use discrete circuitry for each channel, and they tend to rate the total power by taking how much power could potentially be unloaded on each speaker if only one speaker were connected, then add up the total.
You can also get an idea of the severe over-rating of "power output" of most receivers by simply looking at the back and reading off the power consumption. I believe the Sony 910's load is 240 W while the Onkyo 605's is around 600 W. Which one do you think is going to be more powerful on the output side? -

Wanted to add that I like the sound and the price of the 910, I'm a bargain hunter and $330 for uncompressed audio is imo a great bargain. I just wanted to give my thoughts above on power output ratings so that this decision isn't based on the false perception that the 910 has a lot of power.

in this case, being a former Onkyo Owner, I would also vote for the Sony 910. That extra input itself can go a long way in terms of taking away a few headaches
