Default Trouble using auto speaker set up on onkyo 605.......

I was doing the automatic speaker set up on 5.1 system when a speaker detect error message came up that said the surround back speakers have been detected but the surround speakers haven't. I only have a 5.1 system and i hooked my two back speakers up into the surround back inputs on the receiver. What do i do to complete the auto speaker set up? Do i have to change another setting somewhere? Thanks.

You need to switch them to the surround speaker outputs. Surround back refer to the channels directly behind the listening position in 6.1 and 7.1 setups. That's why it's yelling at you.
    Gone forever, at this point.

Ok i'm running into some more problems here, although this time i'm afraid it may be with my receiver. I got some new cables today so i went to plug them up and once i got everything hooked up i found that my right rear speaker wasn't producing any sound. I double checked the connections to make sure everything was good and tried it again, still nothing. I then hooked up a different speaker to it to see if it was the speaker and that wasn't the problem either, the new speaker wouldn't work and the old speaker got moved to the other side and it worked fine. I then figured it must be my cables so i simply switched the a speaker and cable so that actually my right front speaker was plugged into the right rear spot on my receiver. This didn't work either and i think that the input on the receiver must be bad. Someone please help this is really frustrating. Thanks.

    Thumbs up Onkyo TX-SR605

I had the same trouble, setting up my 5.1 speakers with the speaker setup microphone. But I saw that someone pointed out to change the speakers to surround and not to surround back and walllah! problem fixed. I did all trouble shooting and was about to return the receiver!

    Thanks!
