Default iOS 6 Software 4 Beta Rolls Out to Developers - YouTube App Removed From Apple Device

The app is still present on Apple TV devices though, so owners might not need to worry

Honestly, it is better this way. Because it was a core app, it only got updated with the OS. Now Google can make a more proper app and keep it maintained (or you can just use HTML5 in the browser).

The same goes for maps. Google will be bringing out their own navigation app soon and it may even be better than Apple's. I used an Android phone for well over a year and Google Navigation was very good (currently using Waze, it's kinda meh).

yes but google want's to build the app so they can add back in ads. This is a strong reason why google did not want to renew the deal.

So as someone with an iPhone 4 and an original iPad, if I just make a point never to update my OS on either device, I'm not going to lose the youtube app on either device, right? I use the shit out of that app on both devices and don't want to lose it.

Yes. The downside is that eventually newer apps will cease being compatible with the current version of iOS.

Google's standalone YouTube app was just released. Also you have been able to use the browser for some time since YouTube supports HTML5.
