I built the media rack myself, it is two 36" x 72" sections constructed with 1x6 finish-grade lumber from Lowes, a large national Home Improvement chain store here... then I painted them with two coats of primer and two coats of black paint.
Wow, that's not sounding good - you sure you have the right parts in the right place? Is it a fixed-frame setup, or tab-tensioned?FEEL an awesome 3D Blu-ray movie in the Frey Theater - Now featuring projection in glorious "FREYMAX" 3D! -

fixed frame. It has these corner joints that you slide into both parts of the corner. Here is the worst offender.

So...if you had to do it over again, would you get this frame? Would you recommended this frame?

Im tired so only a quick update here. Got the screen all mounted and hung. Some of the joints are still not perfect, but you cant tell unless you are right near the screen. Also noticed some small black specks in a few spots on the screen itself, but again you can only see them up close. So to answer your question taygan, if you are on a tight budget and can deal with some minor blemishes go with Vapex. If you cant deal with it and have more to spend, buy a higher quality one. As for me, Ill survive, and it looks good enough to me.
Also going to quickly point out that I am only able to get about 106-112 inches, I haven't measured exactly. But still glad I got a 120" so down the line I can use all or the screen real estate. Also I need to figure a way to get the projector a few inches higher. I have it centered on the screen, but my head keeps getting in the picture.
I have only played with everything about 30 minutes, so I cant really make a good call yet, but later Saturday I should be able to.
Three quick notes. The unit stays cool to the touch everywhere but near the lamp compartment. And man you don't know how dusty a room is until you have a projector. But it doesn't interfere with picture. Lastly Eco mode is perfect and quiet, normal is too loud. Sadly when using 3D you cant use eco mode, but I guess that makes since. I just hope that with surround sound on, it doesn't get too annoying cause of the fan loudness.Last edited by i007spectre; 07-28-2012 at 02:56 AM.

How is the 3D?? Are you happy that you got the projector now that you have it? Thanks for the update. Post some pics of how your set up looks.
I got to say...I watched Batman Begins on my 60'' rear projection lcos Sony tonight. Have to admit...picture quality the tv displays still looks great. I was even thinking that, other than the obvious difference in screen size, maybe I am not upgrading all that much and that I should wait on the whole projector thing until my rear projection craps out on me. I am still on my first bulb and I bought the tv in December of 06...and I have a spare bulb in my closet ready to go when the original bulb dies on me. I only turn this tv on (and my 55'' Sony 3D led tv) twice a week and view movies and games for maybe 5 hours a night so...10 hours a week. Sometimes...it is less than that. Tonight, I gamed on my led tv for about 4 hours and watched 1 movie on my rear projection. I keep going back and forth on it. I want a projector....but part of me does not like getting rid of something that still works fine for me. I think I am going to buy the epson at bb (when I am ready to buy) and demo it at home to see what my inital impressions of it are first. If I am not all that impressed, I will return it the next day. If it convinces me to keep the projector, I will get everything I need to do it justice...for the $$ that I have to spend on it. I even applied for a second job yesterday (at 3 different places) just to increase the funds a bit until I am ready to spend. I would be working EVERYDAY until the weekend before Thanksgiving. AM I NUTS OR WHAT,lol.Last edited by taygan315; 07-28-2012 at 05:35 AM.

Like I said I haven't used it a lot yet, just some random things here and there. The monstervision max glasses thing I bought keeps dropping out of 3D mode at weird times, but reviewers for the product have used them with the 5010 and it worked. So ill be looking into that.
I went from a Samsung 46" LED 3D that works perfectly, I just wanted to go bigger. And after watching a few select scenes from Star Trek (2009) I can never go back. Even from what little I watched so far, it was sharp, clear and the blacks were perfect. This is the way to enjoy movies.
I have not tried any gaming yet, but the 5010 has a near 80ms input lag from what I have read. Which would probably rule out competitive online gaming. But I will try it with Uncharted 3 single player and see if its that bad. The 3010 I have heard has almost 120ms input lag.
Expect more impressions tonight, and maybe some pics. -

I heard that online gaming on the epson does have some lag. But games like Batman: Arkym City, God Of War III, and many other games that have single player games play fine.
After what you said about Star Trek, my excitement and drool factor kicked in,lol. That would be awesome if you posted some pics!! I am so jealous....imagine, your going to be seeing Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spiderman, and The Avengers on your new projector soon and IT WILL KICK ASS!!!!
Woke up this morning in my man cave, to the sounds of my daughter running in the living room..which is directly above my man cave...where the projector will be mounted if I choose to mount it on the ceiling. Dont know if I like the idea of mounting it now. The pounding on the floor above me just made me really concerened whether mounting the projector is a good idea. My original plan was to table top it...but I like the professional, clean look of mounting it to the ceiling. Plus I would save some $$ by table topping it. Keep going back and forth on this as well.My mancave:

May not share any pictures of where my projector is, its ghetto for now. Sitting on top of a heavy duty cardboard box, haha. But it works for now, Ill probably look for a wooden stand or something. If I were carpentry gifted I would build one myself, but im not. Also I am not the greatest at wire hiding and management, so keep that in mind when I post pictures.

Spent the whole day only messing around with 2D DirecTV, and I am very pleased. So I can only imagine how much ill love it when I start trying out blu-ray's and 3D!
I do have a question, is there any issue with using the projector for long periods of time. Or should I power it down every few hours for 15-30 minutes. I ask because this thing gets hot to the touch! -

Ok just watched a program on 3net about hot air balloons, it was ok. Then they showed a night fireworks display and WOW, that's all I can say.

Just played three different sections from Uncharted 3 in 3D. Looked way better than my old tv did. Also I noticed slight input delay at the start, but it did not take long to get used to it. I didn't even notice it anymore.

My first projector was an CRT-machine. They are not quiet and it sat on the table between the seats. Because the noise is constant you go num for it, you forget that it exists. Sometimes during a quiet moment in a movie I realitzed that that damn thing is pretty loud but usually it was on auto-ignore.

Damn thats a big screen!!!

Thanks for posting the pics. Do you think you can post some pics of the projector playing some movies of yours (preferably Blu-ray, natch)? Screenshots? Like an animated one, a live action one, and a game one? Just to get an idea of what the pq is like. I have not seen an epson in action before and I am just trying to get an idea.
I haven't heard of any overheating issues with projectors before...but it certainly wouldn't hurt to show some discretion while playing the projector for extended periods of time. Myself personally, I would not game on it for 4-5 hours straight and then right after that play a movie or two. I mean, I dont have any facts to back my statement up....but I, again personally, would use cautious discretion.
Thanks again for posting those shots Spectre. You did good my man.My mancave:
