I still want one of those Sony XEL-1s, the first OLED ever produced. A store in my province has just one of these left, for $899. Expensive, but the original price was $2499. So cheap 'from a certain point of view'.

It's amazing when I see prices of HDTV these days. You can get a decent quality 60in plasma TV for $1500! I remember when they first came out when a 42incher cost $13000!
HDTVs are getting better and thinner every year. Samsung dominating this world for best TV manufacturer overall surpassing Sony. I am not surprised by the move made by the Japanese teaming up, to catch up.
I wonder how much of a picture improvement the OLEDs will bring. I currently own the Pioneer Kuro PDP-6010FD and I am very happy with it. I am keeping this unit unless OLEDs present a noticeable picture quality improvement over the Kuro. Only time will tell.
Any how much would an OLED 60incher will cost? I am guessing $10000? Doh! -

In theory at least OLED offers the possibility of a picture that surpasses plasma, LCD, LED, LCOS etc. For years now engineers have been touting the advantages of OLED. Sony brought out a small OLED set a few years ago but it suffered from a high price for a small screen and longevity issues. Hopefully this partnership will succeed in bringing OLED to the market at last. I've been waiting since the early 2000's.

This will be my next TV type. Sadly, I'll have to wait until they get up to 60" or higher and are remotely affordable. I have a 60" set now, and it's a sad fact of life that you just can't go smaller on a TV once you're used to a certain size.
