Default Apple Announces the MacBook Pro with 2880x1800 Resolution

The retina display is certainly impressive, but the lack of a Blu-ray drive is a bit of a bummer.

Here is what I don't understand: Apple kills the 17'' MacBook, that was $2500. But they release the new MacBook Pros in 15'' only, with 7 hours of battery life (vs 10 hours on the 17''), either in 256 GB or 512 GB of Flash drive storage ( vs 500 GB and 750 GB HDD for the 17''), and Apple stated no one was buying the 17'' (again at $2500) but Apple expects you to pay $2200 for the 256GB flash drive or the $2900 for the 512GB flash drive for the 15'' new MacBook Pros with Retina Display?? Am I missing something here?? Just does not make sense to me that you kill one laptop (due to low demand because of the retail cost) and replace it with 2 other designs that is not much better cost wise...especially the $2900 model, imo.

Because the issue with sales of 17" MBP's was not related to cost, but more an issue of just the size of the laptop. People are starting to finally realize how impractical a 17" laptop really is.

Yeah...I read that as well. But that was not the only reason why they killed the 17''. I remember reading that sales of the 17'' MacBook Pros were far less than the 13'' and 15'' models. Cant rememeber the exact sales % but I believe that between the 13'' and the 15'', the sales were upwards of 70% or more of their total sales of their laptops..
