Question Sound HD, is really worth it?

After spenT a couple of months recalibrating my old reliable Sony HT-DDW685 in my cinema room of 4x4 meters I think that I have the best setting for hear everything of any movie, like you can see I use the optical instead of hdmi, and even a good dolby 384 kbs sounds pretty damn good. In fact using the optical and taking note from the Blu rays movies reviews from here I concur with their review in the AQ.

In my case I think that is impossible hear anything more, so I ask you guys: do you really hear any diference between the HDMI vs the optical?

It is sometimes very huge to my ears. I was never impressed with the Cars DVD Dolby track when i bought it years ago. I upgraded to the Blu-ray and the audio difference was huge. The bass was deeper and more realistic., and sound separation through the speakers was well improved. I don't have the top of the line setup but yes they do make a difference.

There are so many things that can affect the audio quality in a system. It can involve a lot of factors.

The room acoustics can even have a major influence on the sound.

Disney and Sony make pretty damn good Blu rays, I dont like Cars, but Bolt and Ratatouille were pretty awesome in AQ. Some studios like Paramount make pretty damn bad BR in audio, UP, Fox and WB more less. Even I heard complains from HDHT users that in X movie the gunshots sounds weak, the same kind of problem that I have with my HT the HDHT user has.

All HD sound does is provide a bigger frequency range to present the audio. Weather the audio is good or not still comes down to the specific audio mix on the release. If you're happy with the sound you have now, then don't sweat it. But if you find that some films sound like they are muffled a bit, lossless audio can provide more clarity. But there are so many factors that go into sound, no one can say for sure weather you would notice any real difference.

Most of the time I would never notice a difference with the setup I have in the room I use. But when I watch a live music performance (Thinking of the NIN: Beside You In Time disc specifically), I can certainly tell a difference when I flip back and forth between the standard Dolby track and the lossless track. Though I haven't tested it, I'm sure it's equally noticable on big explode-a-thon action films. Probably doesn't make much difference on dramas, comedies and lower budget films though.

clarity? I doubt it. Like I tell you before, now I can heard everything that come from the screen, EVERYTHING, I dont spent 2 months of my life for nothing.

Just imagine this: some AVIs that I have with MP3 audio sounds clearly and pretty good, just imagine how wonderful an AC3 or a DTS sounds.

You clearly have your mind made up about it not sounding any better or being worth it, so why bother? Enjoy what you have.

Wow i can not believe it that the studios are still supporitng more the 5.1 instead the 7.1, they are just few movies that are in 7.1, what a poOrLY way of support HD HT.

Why bother asking for people's opinion when the only opinion that matters to you is the opinion that matches yours? i'm confused.

    Dude I do my homework

To be the stubborn guy that I am now I did many research in this site, I read a lot of BD reviews (many are bad, few ones are good, rare are great) in A/P quality and the good ones match it with me.

The same issues & neat details in AQ that the good reviews said I proudly can tell you that match it with my opinión.

    Is that bad?

Nope, nothing wrong in having your own opinion, but my confusion stems from the fact that you ask for other people's opinion but when they disagree with you, you're telling them that you are right and they are wrong.

Is call it debate you know? You have your opinión, I have mine, at least I try to justify the defense of my opinión giving you details of my experience, many of here just said: YEah Silver cat sounds great, sounds pretty awesome that, but dont care of giving you details of why they think something sounds good.

I just hate that people give their opinión and dont bothers on explain you why. Dumb lazy people.

Well, one thing for sure, the most important thing is the master quality of the mix. Depending on the equipment used, I have experienced where a lossy running through a proper decoder chip, DAC and power amp can sound better than lossless running through a basic receiver.

Second most important (actually, as important) is the acoustics condition of the room. It doesn't matter how good the master and the system, is the room acoustic is messed up, it will still sound messed up.

    To me:

67 % is the audio mix, 33 % are acoustics and hardware( receivers, speakers, DVD/bd player).
