HDMI switches, multiple AVR's , and multiple displays....
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with all three. I'm attempting to do a multi-room setup with some equipment sharing. I have 3 rooms, each with their own AVR( SC-27 on projector room, RX-V663 on LV, and RX-V467 on MBR) and cable box. The equipment I will be sharing across the 3 are BD player, HDDVD player, Mac Mini, and XBox 360 (MBR has own 360 and PS3). I want to be able to watch the BD in the LV Room while I watch the Mac Mini in the projector room. I have all equipment in 1 central location in basement and have IR repeater kits for every room. I ordered HDMI switches and splitters from Monoprice and well as a few long HDMI cables. I figured I would just go for it but I've received such great advice from here in the past, I thought I'd put my concern up in the air here. If it seems wonky, I can give each room their own components, but would rather share as it makes thing "lazier"! Thanks in advance for all help and insight.

This is the one product you should be using:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
It's a 4x4 HDMI matrix switch. It MAY do what you want. It lets you plug in up to four HDMI sources and you can switch any of the four sources to any of the four outputs independently.
The issue, or rather the potential issue, is HDCP keys and licensing. This is a 'cheap' HDMI matrix and likely doesn't regenerate keys on the output, but passes on the original keys to the final device. This can make multiple jumps as well as multiple splits an issue. It's impossible to tell which device(s) may have issues, but it could come up.
This is where a better HDMI matrix switch can solve the issue, at a VERY serious premium.

Aurora Multimedia also has one which is HDMI 1.4 compliant... I think about $5,000MSRP.
It's a bit frustrating that there aren't cheaper solutions at this time which definitely work. I have the Monoprice one, but haven't really used it because I have well over 4 HDMI sources and more than 4 destinations, so it seemed kind of pointless. It'll cost me a pretty penny to get the 8x8 version from Aurora, but that's my expected plan of attack.AV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington DC, Northern VA, and MD area. -

That's the Matrix from Monoprice I ordered. Okay thanks for the heads up on the possible HDCP issues. I totally forgot about that.
Now i know you stated that you don't really use it currently, but if you have used it was the programming fairly simple?

The remote that comes with it has all four inputs and all four outputs separately listed, so via IR it is super easy to control with any universal remote.
For RS-232, there are codes for it on the Monoprice website in the feedback section.
Beyond that, it's all plug and play - or should be.AV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington DC, Northern VA, and MD area. -

Great, thanks! It is amazing that Monoprice is the only place to find reasonably priced HDMI switches and splitters. Every where else, like you stated earlier, is just such a tremendous premium. but again thanks for the help.
