Default Hitachi May Exit TV Business

At the very least they'll be scaling down and outsourcing manufacturing.

This is too bad if true. Hitachi used to make great TVs are pretty good prices back in the CRT days. I actually still have 3 of them right now, a 20 year old 27" SDTV, a 6 year old 57" rear projection CRT HDTV, and a 7 year old 65" rear projection CRT HDTV. I am still very happy with all 3.

Their problem is they really haven't done much in the Plasma/LCD arena. Their features are a bit behind, and thier prices are too high for the lack of features. If they were to come out with new models that had as many or more features than comparable Samsung/LG at a bit higher price I would probably go with Hitachi. Their build quality and low failure rate in my experience would be worth it.

They must have had a deal of some type with Circuit City, because since CC went belly up now that I think about it I've not seen Hitachi sets anywhere else in the last couple of years.
