Tv Viewing Distance?
Hi guys,
I'm considering buying the Sony KDL-40W2000 for my bedroom, the viewing distance is 2.5 meters!
Do you think that will cause a problem? -

Well it totally depends how big the room is.

That calculator doesn't take into account whether its 720p or 1080p though.

Well, keep in mind that seating distance is more your preference. Although their recommendations are very helpful and accurate, most calculators seat you at a much closer distance to the screen than what you might be comfortable with. So, be ready for that.
This calculator is very helpful, since it offers both a regulated distance and the THX recommendation, while also taking into account 720p and 1080 i/p at the bottom: Viewing Distance Calculator.
This chart is equally helpful if you own a DLP, LCD, or Plasma, running at any resolution: HDTV Distance Chart.
Hope this helps your HD viewing pleasure.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash.
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

The sites that eNoize recommended are much better than the one from docmanjay2 IMO.
No offense jay, but that calculator was WAY too conservative. It says that I should be almost twice as far away from my TV as I am. I am a little close, but according to THX, I should be almost a foot closer (7.5 ft from a 60" screen).
Here is another helpful chart:

After looking at the chart, the site that docmanjay2 posted is using 720p... put in 60" for TV size, and it says 15 feet, put in 7.5 feet and it says 37" TV... this is all within the 720p scale, but since I have a 1080p TV, I sit closer.JU1CYFRU1T

I have a 50" 720p and I'm just over 6' right now and I'm nearly at THX standard but the pixels on the screen are just becoming noticeable - basically on the edges of text.

Yeah, that's why I usually recommend that you find the distance most comfortable for you. Calculators can make you sit much closer than you might want, because you begin to notice things you might not want to.

Forget all the calculations - forget even asking here. It simply doesn't matter in the least.
What you want to do is go to a store - stand 2.5 meters from the TVs and see which one feels most comfortable to your eyes. I can't say which is best, and neither can anyone else. You want to be darn sure to feed the display HDTV as well as SDTV so you can see what both will truly look like from your seating distance.
Then, buy the size you like most.
