People are taking this news and running with it. But companies like IGN are to blame.

The biggest part of this story is, 1400 more BB will carry Blu ray. When people rent movies they will see that theer local video store caries that HD format. When those people get into the HD market they will buy the player that they can get movies for.
I know your trying to downplay it saying that 3000 stores don't carry either format, or that you rent at netflix. This will start to create a domino effect. -

this argument is so old and tired, why do we always come back to this?
from the may NPD numbers thread in the sales data forum:
number of PS3s sold in may alone: 81,604
even if the ps3 continues to sell at these anemic numbers, it's STILL putting 81,604 potential BD players in homes, which in combination with the HUGE mindshare BD victory that the entire blockbuster thing has turned into, ain't no small thang. Can't you recognize bullsh*t? Don't you think it would be a useful item to add to your intellectual toolkits to be capable of saying, when a ton of wet steaming bullsh*t lands on your head, "My goodness, this appears to be bullsh*t?"

As time goes by PS3 is becoming less important in this HD battle, standalones will take over.
That said, sales will increase when the price cut comes in and exclusive titles are released. -
