I agree. Its funny when fanboys say "ohh well we have ______, I love that movie so much." But that does not translate in to sales. Upcoverting may just look just as well but if they dont already own the movie they will get it on HiDef disk. Because everyone already buys into the marketing hype (if they already own a HiDef player.
Sales rep = the ablity to sell useless feature to the masses example $$$ hdmi cords. -

Selective quoting is a wonderful spinning tool. Now read my statement again in context:
Also "movie goers" implies to people who ACTUALLY GO AND SEE MOVIES IN THEATERS, thus I am not insulting them when I write about physical formats. The movies will always be there if HD DVD survives ...I am not missing much.Last edited by Balian; 06-17-2007 at 02:57 PM.

Why not you see paradies everyday using images of celebrities and such.
At AVS you will see screen caps from HD DVD and BD ..which some may think was illegal.
LOL
Joking though, you posted something illegal ..Drugs

PS..
Then a lot of folks avatars would be illegal too

I still think it's possible that neither format will ever see the kind of numbers DVD now has, and the format war certainly isn't helping things. The horizon for optical discs seems very close, and a unified front might have made inroads before they became obsolete. Unfortunately, this format war isn't going to end soon enough. How long has it been since the first HD title was released? 13 months for HD, 11 months for BD? The VHS vs. Beta format war lasted in earnest for ten years, starting in 1976. So by that reckoning, we may still have nine years to go before one HD format is chosen over another. 2016?
Right now, the war is stalled until mass adoption of HDTVs. Who knows how long that'll take. Hopefully it'll happen within three years, but it could easily drag out longer, as long as HDTVs are considered premium items. HDTV was invented in 1969. Maybe the 40th anniversary of its existence will be when its ship finally comes in. ;-)
Dual format players could help. Sure, today they're super expensive, but they already exist, and they'll be the standard when they reach the finish line, which is the year of mass adoption of HDTVs. Neither format is going to disappear before that point.
However, the internet is also racing HD formats to the HDTV-adoption finish line. Everyone who has an HDTV will have cable or satellite, and they will all have a DVR by then, or an Xbox, or some other device that is capable of downloading movies and shows. Discs could very well be irrelevant by then. We'll know when that happens when DVD sales start plunging into the basement.
We're so early in the race. HD discs are here today. They won't be tomorrow. Get both formats if you can. Enjoy them while they're here. Donate your players, Xboxes, and PS3s to a museum in 15 years.
Sorry for not adding anything new to the picture. =)LG GGC-H20L Super Multi Blue Blu-ray & HD DVD ROM Drive

As soon as Universal was contacted about the problem they started replicating a new batch of discs & they were replaced.
As far as the Blu-ray disc rotting goes people are just starting to notice it & checking their discs. We have no idea how many people are affected & how long it will take to get all the titles replaced.
My "Children Of Men" played perfectly fine so it didn't need to be replaced.
I will be going thru all my Blu-rays to see if any of them have rot on them this week.Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful)

Never had to boil any of my discs. They have all played fine.
But if it came down to it I'd rather boil my discs to work properly than to have them go bad & not be able to watch them.
Of course you know my "connect the dots game" was a joke. After all the posting Blu-ray fans did about the "Children of Men" problem with some people & their players.Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful)

Disc rot is not platform specific ...the problem is well known with DVD/CDs too. It will happen on HD DVD eventually if the format survives long enough that is. Of course, you HD DVD fans wouldn't know that.
Your recollection of events are a little bit fuzzy. It took Universal forever to even recognized the problem.
