1.7 worldwide and sold to rentailers the first week on Blu-Ray. I would say that Transformers 2 should beat that pretty easily when you factor in worldwide and rentailer sales. And HMM is estimating Walmart sales as well so that is a mixed bag. It could have sold more or less and Walmart did have the exclusive IMAX version for $19.99 and the cheapest online price the week of release.

It would be nice to get worldwide and rentailer sales numbers from Paramount, but I trust HMM more at the end of the day.

This will be the highest selling BD title in history after Christmas is over with. I believe TDK was around 2.5 million a few months ago.

Bigger install base a year later.

I'm glad there is no reason for format war studio propaganda claims anymore that had an incentive to push the numbers. At least HMM is consistent in its methods.

The world's largest retailer selling this at $19.99 likely gave the numbers a boost. Amazon was $19.99 during release week as well.

Yeah, but TDK grossed over $100 million more at the theaters domestically and drew much better reviews from the critics and the public alike. That has to have an effect on home video sales.

Nope. Despite the fact that they are both mainstream movies, Dark Knight isn't as mainstream as Transformers. Chris Nolan is incapable of making a Michael Bay-esque fast food style movie for the masses.

Transformers 2 probably (sadly) has better replay value to it because it has more explosions and crap like that.

For one second I thought about trading places with Michael Bay. That man's bank account must be pretty sweet right now.

Exactly. Like I mentioned above, Chris Nolan is incapable of making a Michael Bay-esque fast food style movie for the masses. This is a good thing.

Not necessarily.

TDK has sold less than 13 million on DVD:

Both Transformers and Pirates At Worlds End beat that. Click on title to get SID sales.

The-Numbers isn't accurate. Every one of the titles on there is lowballed by quite a bit.

Sales total are off for this title over the first movie. 7.5M vs. 8.3M.

Reuters (originally from THR) --

The summer theatrical blockbuster, which grossed $316.5 million in North American theaters, topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart by a long shot in the week ending October 21, with sales pegged by Paramount-DreamWorks at 8.3 million units -- a 2007 record.
Total sales for movie #1 was reported as:

HMM did not give Blu-ray title percentages last year but the Warner claims were 10 M sell trough, 13.5 M worldwide including rental dealers, and 1.7 M worldwide on Blu-ray.

Its the numbers from Nash information services.

Its usually a bit lower than studio claims but its accessible and consistent for titles for DVD sales with data going back now for IIRC over 5 years.

But its never higher than studio claims so at least you can assume the-numbers data is a low estimate for any DVD unit sales.
