Default You "just want BD Live, Analog outs and a name brand" for <$200? You got it!

Someone else posted this on another forum:

What now?

"Does it do 3D? Managed copy? No? I now require those two for any potential bluray player purchases"......

Is what I think some people are probably thinking nowadays.

Curious as to what their "excuses" will be now.

1. But I don't like Panasonic.
2. The remote isn't big/small enough or backlit.
3. The black plastic isn't black enough.
4. I don't like Amazon. I only shop at Walmart.
5. I have to repair my roof this month.
6. Depends have increased a lot this past year, so now all my extra $ is going to that.
7. All my money is invested in fishing gear now.

M. Patterson of Cleveland, OH writes in his/her Amazon review:

"This unit is very slow to start up. Slow to move from one menu to the next. Just plain slow. This unit is not user friendly and difficult to navigate I'm not happy with the remote at all, with no apparent thought given to the logic of the layout."

Oh yeah, ship me 10 of these badboys.

Gee, out of 36 reviews, you picked this one? All are favorable except for this one and four others. The other four were HDMI issue on older equipment, HDMI issue on a bottom of the barrel Yamaha receiver, one idiot couldn't figure out how to use the subtitle button on the remote so it got a one star rating, and another idiot was clueless on analog audio setup and was pissed off about not being able to get customer service to walk him through it.

Please.

But of course you had to cherry-pick a minority 2-star review.

Overall, Panasonic Blu-ray players are considered the most reliable around. I have a BD30 and I agree.

I think the idea is that those people want the Latest and Greatest for under $200. But the Latest and Greatest is always changing. Once the stuff they say want can be had for under $200 it is no longer the latest and greatest. New features are announced that won't be ready for several months and leaves these people salivating for those new features. I have a friend just like this. He ends up waiting forever and never buying anything because he's stubborn about the price but always wants the latest features.

This is one of the reasons why blu-ray will be successful format as long as it remains the best option.

People always want latest and greatest. The biggest thread BD has to face isn't DVD, or anything inferior, it is a bigger and better technology that is the biggest problem.

The whole issue of entitlement in America is a big problem, but is also one of the reasons why BD will be fine as long as it is the premier product.

Consumer economy and people want these things...there will always be a good market for the best. Now whether or not is remains niche is relatively moot especially with wide studio support.

What BDA needs to do is decrease the cost of making a disc on the front end, so that smaller companies can afford authoring BD's and push content forward.

Many have argued that content is king, and it is. Once they open up that up we'll see more titles available and perhaps some price drops. Granted, title selection is good enough as most major day-date releases are available on BD.

As I said before, BD for most people is a one way door. Once you have one, you will be renting and purchasing BD, and DVD is out the door for the most part. Outside of portability/cost, dvd has no other advantage left.

what is wrong with some of the people on here?
Panasonic makes some of the best bd players available.
I would love one of these, but I just still have no need or desire for bd-live.
someone let me know when it offers anything I might be interested in.
btw: maybe I'll just get an older 35k for this price--

What is wrong is that some people still think it is 2007 and cannot get over the format war. It is that simple.

Notice the #1 person who was crying for the "under $200 with analog outs and made by a name brand" and I'll buy one is nowhere to be found. Very telling.
