Well you can wait for black friday... and find the player for $200. Or for $300. Or for $140. Or you had to camp out at Best-Mart for 2 days to get it for $100, otherwise it's $250. Or not find the player at all because it's sold out everywhere for whatever it was selling for.

Or you can order it now, and enjoy the player ~8 weeks sooner.

Was this whole thread created to bait Lee??
My BD player became a doorstop early spring and I would never consider buying one before the big sales this Q4, smart shopping.

I would have jumped at this very player at this price at the beginning of the year. Simple fact is, the longer I wait, the more I will get for my money. At the very least, I'd wait 3-4 months to see how the holiday deals shape up. I would hope for at least this player + movies at this same price or lower before year end.

I am not one of those hold-outs who don't have a BR SAL already, though. My first gen Panasonic works fine. If my player does stop working (and I'm logging 20+ hours a week on it), this is exactly the player and price I would jump at.

I was never really involved in the whole format war thing. Up until early 2008 I mostly watched upconverted dvds and HD satelite channels and didn't even know High Def Digest existed.
That doesn't matter. You said something negitive about BR. Some here are touchy.

bluray is dead but buying downloads will die first

studios will no longer be able to count on movie buying

a generation of kids is growing that will expect it to be free

most music is pirated already

less films will be made

Well I wouldn't call BR dead. Not even close. But I do not believe it is being accepted and growing the way studios had hoped. They wanted it to be the next DVD dispite what some here will now claim. I don't think the studios invested all of this money only to hope for so so acceptance. But if it is profitible enough there will be continued support for the time being. LD was supported for a long time and it was also a niche format.

Do I get baking soda wit dat player?!?!

Maybe the question should be "what next?".

You might want to take this spectacle on the road. Maybe women's forums - blu-ray could use the demographic.

Nonsense. If that were true, you would say I started a year ago:

First-brand Profile 2.0 player goes under $200 - with 4 free movies

And anyway, many threads have been opened on this forum by other people regarding significant pricing milestones being reached. To wit:

Sony drops BDP-S350 BD-Live (Profile 2.0) player to $299

First under-$200 BD player hits Amazon!

Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray Disc Player at Kmart Thursday - $179.99

Memorex MVBD-2510 Blu-ray player sinks below $100

Target stores lower BD-Live capable Blu-ray player to $225 with $14.99 Bond movies

And the Price Continues to Drop_Meijer $99 Blu-ray Player

Walmart Drops Blu-ray Player to $128

$50 Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player Sherwood BDP5003 for $50.09 (before shipping)

The only difference is in how the title was phrased this time, which was a followup to the demand by a subset of our community for that specific set of features at that specific price.
