What format war? I didn't buy my first HD player (a Sharp Blu-ray model) until after Toshiba had called it quits. I bought my second Blu-ray player 6 months after that. Two months after that I then bought a LG Blu-ray/HD DVD combo drive to add to my existing Media Center HTPC. I Didn't buy my first HD DVD movie until early 2009 when most online places were pretty well giving them away (what was left of the stock, that is).

I was never really involved in the whole format war thing. Up until early 2008 I mostly watched upconverted dvds and HD satelite channels and didn't even know High Def Digest existed.

Even more telling.
Maybe he's on the phone right now with Amazon ordering one.

I was pretty much the same way except I bought into HD DVD during Q4 of 2007. I would also say that over half of my HD DVD collection was bought in firesales where they were anywhere from $3-8 each. So I don't really feel bad about that. Besides the HD DVD players are fantastic upconverters in their own right.

Wonder how low it will go on Black Friday weekend.

That goal post is getting a bit worn out though.

Everyone can see that BD player prices are going down.

No reason in the world not to wait till they get to their lowest point this year which should be BF.

If all of you can't understand that? Well personally - I could give 2 shits.

Yet just last month or so you were going apeshit over the possibility of the Vizio being released with analog outs and all other requirements you required. Turns out it had no analogs so your dreams were shattered once again, but nonetheless, you were prepared to "buy" one even though Black Friday was still around the corner. Apparently the "lowest price point this year" wasn't an issue then.

You that rigid in life - especially when prices are going down? You Mr. Moneybags? Must be nice.

Just ordered one to give away for Xmas. Not going to wait for Black Friday to roll around and deal with the crowds and other nonsense.

Mr. Moneybags? Definitely not, but having a job and not foolishly retiring early does help when it comes to buying things you want.

I will keep my eyes open for a Sony 550 or the Panasonic counterpart. Would pay $210ish but must be brand new. I still need to buy some movies to go with it.

You "just want BD Live, Analog outs and a name brand" for <$200? You got it!

I will consider the source when you comment on my early retirement.

Black Friday 2009, or Black Friday 2029?
