Come on Lee, you only have yourself to blame here in your previous statement of what your standards would be for a new purchase of Blu-ray hardware. Its only fair as your standards evolve and your requirements have changed , of course with market conditions, that you and others can be called out on it.

But sure, I understand that waiting for this week pre Black Friday sales or for Black Friday now makes sense for you to get the best value.

But your previous point was your standards before for a Blu-ray player purchase also mirrored others informed consumers who were hesitant on jumping into Blu-ray until fully capable BD-Live players from major brands were affordable and readily available for under $200 or less.

That point has now been reached and for any enthusiast, or movie lover, or for a general recommendation to buy, there is now now excuse not to buy a Blu-ray player this fall.

Cripes, even consumer reports is saying now is the right time for everyone to buy a Blu-ray player.

Amazon won't ship any hardware over the border. No tv's, blu players, etc. We can get movies, but they charge a "Border Import Deposit" based on what they assume the duty charges will be. It adds up, but some of the movie prices are still better than what we pay up here.

As for the OP, do we really care that much what some people decide to buy? I know I don't voice opinions a lot, but I'm a long-time reader and this whole thing of getting some people to buy a player seems a little bit much. If they want one, they'll buy one. I have one (two actually) and I'll enjoy mine. What they do doesn't affect me at all.

I would have loved to buy the Panasonic BD80. it has everytjhing I would want in a BD player and the price was right. But as you know, circumstances in my personal life have changed drastically - but will be sorted out by the 20th.

If this is the last good deal between now and the end of the year on a BD player, then the retailers/CEMs really aren't puxhing BD players are they?

I doubt this is the last good deal on a Blu-Ray player. I expect even better deals, but I suspect most of those better deals are not going to be on 2.0 players that have 5.1-7.1 analog audio outs (which is one of your requirements and will really limit the deals out there). I personally doubt you will find a better deal on a 2.0 player with analog outs though. That would basically leave Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer I believe (Denon, Marantz, Oppo, etc offer 2.0 players with analog outs but will cost more). But yeah, if Amazon has this deal going on now, I suspect you will see a similar deal on the same player down the road. And, like last year, they may have some deals on players and movies. I found my father-in-law a screaming deal on a Panasonic BD35 last year, and I got one on a Samsung 1500.
