This is almost worthy of its own thread, not so much because of the redbox tie, but is this true?

As we have mentioned on this site previously, the typical Redbox kiosk can hold around 600 discs but usually carries fewer than 200 unique titles. This is the result of a decision, according to Redbox CEO Mitch Lowe, to limit consumer choices by stocking kiosks with a narrow range of titles. Lowe says the decision was made after experiments were conducted offering a wider variety of titles, including classic and foreign films.

“What we found,” he says, “is that today there are so many choices out there, consumers are really looking for some help and guidance.”

The reason I think this is interesting is that maybe the problem with DVD sales is that there's too much out there all at once. You can't buy every DVD on the market, and saturate it with too many options, consumers be overwhelmed and pick nothing. Maybe?

I don't think it works this way. People wanted some new movies and those favorites they like from years before. I think the real issue is that people who buy movies are fatigued from a decade of purchases. They are not buying catalog/library titles... as they have the ones they wanted. And now, they are being more selective with new releases and TV shows.

Anyone see this coming:

http://www.insideredbox.com/redbox-s...y-rental-fees/

Quote:
“While it boasts ‘easy $1 a night DVD rentals’ ‘with no late fees…ever,’ that is not the truth,” the filing reads. “Instead, Redbox charges its customers who return a movie even one minute late a late fee in the form of an illegal penalty.”
It didn't occur to me that Redbox would be sued over this. And while I've described the "$1 rental" as a gimmick, that's because it's actually a "$1/day rental" not a "$1 rental with no late fees". Here's a court case where I'm definitely on Redbox's side.

This won't go anywhere.

Redbox clearly states that their policy is "one dollar per day" with each new day's fee being charged up front.

Yeah. The Court filing reads more like an advertisement.
Perhaps Redbox put her up to it.
