Please! Let me guess - they were reported on AVS?
I don't know anyone that's owned multiple PS1s.
I got my PS2 replaced after owning it for 2 1/2 years because Reservoir Dogs special edition wouldn't load on it, even with the updated DVD driver disc they released with the remote.
It cost me nothing.
I don't know anyone that's had a PS3 crap out on them.
[sarcasm]It's almost a conspiracy isn't it?[/sarcasm] -

I thought you'd get a kick out of that one, its how they prepare you for owning a 360. I could fill up this whole forum with 360 "problem reports".
Well I'll e-mail Microsoft for the actual numbers but don't hold your breath waiting for my response. -

Dude, you're such an insufferable Sony apologist that's actually amusing watching you flail about putting out fires for your Sony overlords.
You're the Tony Snow of Sony fanboys. -

I don't know anyone who has been able to get a PS3, therefore no one I know has had a PS3 crap out on them. Although, the game store down the street from me does have a big black brick on display. Their PS3 overheated and broke days after the launch. Customers didn't much seem to care, most of them were more interested in seeing the Wii anyway.

I hope for Sony's sake there aren't many defective PS3s. They've screwed this launch up enough already. Any more screw ups would probably be the nail in the coffin.
They need to ramp up production pretty quickly. It's already nearly impossible for them to catch the 360. They're in danger of permanently lagging behind the Wii as well. -

I read that sony replaced some of their high level executives, a sign that they are aware the botched PS3 launch could really hurt blu-ray.

I'm not sure I'm reading your post correctly. Are you saying that I'm amusing or did you mean "that it's actually amusing"
Welcome to the forum. I'm never flailing, I'm just telling you MY experience. I don't think I'm apologizing for anyone either. I think you jump to conclusions far too quickly but that you're trying to come across real cool-like and win some new friends. I like Blu-ray, Playstation, X Box, Sony's SXRDs, SACD, DVD-Audio, Pioneer, Panasonic. I do not like what Sony did to the DualDisc format and have posted this not only in here but on Amazon and other places as well. 16/48 Enhanced Stereo is a load of bollocks.
I bought a PS2 in April 2001 and at the end of summer 2003 I took it to Sony's service centre in Whitby because I was mad it wouldn't load up my new copy of Reservoir Dogs, which I was anxious to watch in DTS.
Where am I apologizing to anyone on behalf on Sony?
Anyway, whatever gets your nut off. -

As everyone has already said, Sony's biggest mistake was building Blu-ray into the PS3.
You can't assume that everyone who buys a PS3 is interested in HD movies (or even has an HDTV). While there are SOME people who will view it as a cheap Blu-ray player, the VAST majority of the potential consumers will view it as an expensive gaming console. And Sony has screwed themselves on both fronts. Consider:
1) Gaming publishers are NOT happy that the PS3 is priced so far out of the mainstream's range. The system's price will severely limit its sales to those who can afford it. Sony's gaming audience is made up of younger more mainstream gamers with LESS disposable income. Don't expect them fly off the shelves at anywhere NEAR PS2 levels. Even when readily available.
2) Movie studios who back Sony solely because they believed there would be millions of PS3s in homes this Christmas are PISSED. The inclusion of the Blu-ray drive has cause all kinds of production problems and delays. Now there seems to be only a couple hundred thousand of these systems in North America. And that doesn't even mean that each system will be used as an HD player. Being extremely generous, lets say 50,000 of them are. That's the MAX number of BD discs that a studio can sell for each title. I'm sure they're not pleased about that.
Sony should've done what MS did. Make the Blu-ray drive an ADD-ON. That way you can mass produce the PS3, getting the millions into homes. You're not forcing those not interested in the HD format to pay a premium for something they won't even use. Game publishers are pleased as well since the system would've been competitively priced. THEN you offer the Blu-ray drive to those that ARE interested in the HD movies. But this way, there are even MORE potential PS3 customers to offer it to. Movie studios are pleased.
But MS took this (proper) approach instead and are reaping the benefits along with the studios smart enough to support the HD DVD format.
Oh well. -

If you compare 360 launch titles with ps3 launch titles there ps3 still doesn't look better. You don't get it do you? The ps3 is out a year later they have no excuse not to look better than 360 with all the hype and time they put into it. I work in the games industry as a software engineer. I'm not a expert in the graphics area but the general consesus is disapointment with ps3 power and fear that porting 360 to ps3 will just result in a poor looking verion of the game. -

I'm tired of that "it's unfair to compare launch titles to 2nd gen titles" excuse.
What else are you going to compare them to? You can't go into a time machine back to winter '05. MS launch a year ago for a reason. To get developers to the second gen in order to have a lineup of games that Sony can't touch.
And its working. Sony will be countered game for game all through 2007 ending with the curb-stomp that is Halo 3. Sucks for Sony syncophants. -

My understanding originally was that Sony was the force behind Blu Ray, yet it is a consortium made up of a bunch of companies. So why the big push by them to delay their system, swallow a ton of $$, miss the biggest selling season, for something that they are only a portion of ?? Why will this be Sony's Betamax if they are only one of many companies supporting it?

It'll be their Betamax because it's THEIR FORMAT. They are putting it in the PS3 and pushing it as a MOVIE PLAYER (A movie comes free with the PS3, not a game).
Sony has put ALL of its chip in the Blu-ray basket. If it fails, it will be a devastating blow.
Everyone else can simply switch to HD DVD. Not so easy for the PS3. They'll eventually stop putting the drive in it I suspect.Last edited by StarkyLuv; 12-07-2006 at 05:46 PM.

lol at least with Microsoft the problems with the 360 generally got better after launch and patches improved problem issues, not made them worse!

The system with the most good games and better gameplay options IS better.
The 360's game lineup is far superior and will be throught 2007. XBOXLive obliterates Sony's free online service and XBOXLive Arcade is pretty good (though Nintendo's Virtual Console will surpass it).
Forget specs and what produces better graphics. It's about games and for right now and the foreseeable future, the 360 smokes the PS3.
Especially if the PS3 keeps losing exclusives (I believe it will.)
