Unfortunately hollywood will probly think those type of characters is what the public wants since TF2 made so much money and put more of this crap in the next movie.

Sure its giant robots from outer space fighting each other, but the dark night was about a man running a round at night in a rubber suit and the fact that it took it self seriously did not hurt it at the box office.

Unfortunately the Transformers series looks like it might be headed towards the same fate as the older batman movies that just got silly as time went on.

Everyone in here prasing TF2 just because you love the scene with Optimus kicking ass needs to look at the movie as a whole which failed. The three stooge's transformers are coming. You have been warned....
Sorry but i disagree.

Yes those robots with the teeth did suck and yes there are other moments of "WTF was bay thinking" puitting that in but the majority of the movie was fine.Sure the story was crap but the story was crap in the cartoons too

For me if they took out those ja ja binks robots and the dogs humping and the other robot humping the leg and near the end where
Spoiler:
where sam dies and comes back
.Then there really wan't much else too wrong in an OMG WTF type of way and everything is pretty much on par with what i expected.

But don't get me wrong... this movie was disgustingly terrible.
All you people complaining about the silliness of this movie have forgotten that this is a PG13 movie based on a cartoon and toys so you are correct to think that the jokes are aimed at 12 year old boys. I bet you those 12 year old boys think the jokes and Jar Jar Binks robots are very funny.

I do not know what you guys expect this movie to be, a true-to-life documentary, like Band of Brothers and Black Hawk Down?

I hope the people that are complaining about the silliness of this movie are not the same people that raved about "Ratatouille" or "Happy Feet".

Don't ask me why, but most people expect live-action movies to be marginally more realistic than cartoons starring talking animals.

You know, I get sick and tired of the "Taffy's" of the world trying to paint everything with a certain brush.

My favs are Shawshank Redemption, Slumdog,There will be blood.

But.. I also loved TF2. So what am I then mister big brush? Half 12 year old?

The live-action are realistic, it's the jokes and the dialogue who most people are complaining about. And we are also talking about animated robots here!

1 Beverly Hills Cop
2 Ghostbusters
3 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
4 Gremlins
5 The Karate Kid
6 Police Academy
7 Footloose
8 Romancing the Stone
9 Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
10 Splash

Yeah right, they were all gems of cinematic glory with "plot, storyline and exceptional direction given to exceptional actors"...
As much as I loved Ghostbusters, I'd take 2008 blockbusters over 1984: The Dark Knight, WALL-E, Gran Torino, Iron Man, Benjamin Button & Slumdog Millionaire.

Transformers 2 is just as entertaining as most blockbusters over the past 30 years, and will definitely be a Bluray purchase for me.
Hey....
I got a list too....and I think it's more relevant to the discussion than your list since it's very probable that Transformers II will displace TDK on my list. Now...your statement above which I highlighted seems waaaayyyyyyy off base as does the inclusion of Transformers 2 on this list, IMO.

It's a stupid way to look at these things. Your list is fantastic...I mean, watch Gremlins again. Do it. The movie barely has a story worth paying attention to. Watch Beverly Hills Cop...I love that movie, but it's hardly the story that makes that movie work so well. Watch Indiana Jones...GOD I love that movie...but let's not pretend that story isn't anything but a clothesline of silliness to hang action sequences on.

People remember the best, forget all the crap, then lament the downfall of cinema because the average movie doesn't live up to the best of all time. It's bad logic...but hey, you're quoting Taffy. That should be expected.

Point? Taffy has a point? I don't believe it.
Some of my favorite lines from Indiana:

"ASPS.......very dangerous, YOU GO FIRST!!!"
"It's as if the Pharaohs have returned!"
"BAD DATES"<squeeesh>

Some of my favorite music from the movie:
Dummm-da dumm-dummm....da-da-dumm....

Come on man....lets give this absolutely brilliant movie and its creators a great big HIGH FIVE!!!!

I'm not sure if I read you right, but did you say TF2 will outgross The Dark Knight domestically? Because so far, it has been behind the Dark Knight every single day, and the gap is only going to grow wider at this point. One, because the Dark Knight had better word of mouth, and it had less competition. Transformers 2 might challenge Dead Man's Chest (adjusted for inflation), but I highly doubt this breaks 500 million. 5% chance it actually does. The Dark Knight's box office performance won't be challenged for a couple years or so IMO. It will lose its weekend records and such probably within a year or two, but, the quality of the film and its WOM is what will really define the Dark Knight in terms of box office performance. Inflation or not, to get people to pay nearly 7 bucks and push this film to 533 million dollars is incredible.

Um, since you obviously didn't notice...I was talking about Temple of Doom. Raiders is a much finer film than its sequel...though, I still love its sequel...it's an awesome silly adventure movie.

And to the above...I have little to no doubt...Transformers 2 isn't going to make $500M. The big question is like you say...can it beat DMC. Dark Knight? Ha, I don't think so.

TF2 had humor that was questionably inappropriate for 12-year-old boys, though I know with today's sinking societal standards (ooh, prude I am!), that is lost on many.

No, I didn't expect it to be like Black Hawk Down. What I expected was a movie that was at least HALF as serious in tone as the first one. Like I said, there was no reason to throw out all reason and turn it into a crappy, and I mean CRAPPY, comedy. The first one had a joke here or there, but overall had a relatively serious tone to the story. This was just.... retarded. At least the first film didn't have three separate humping scenes.... which, I don't even frickin know who that humor was aimed at.
