Default Snow White Blu-ray Out Seven Weeks Before DVD

Quote:
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the upcoming Platinum Edition Blu-ray release of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', which is due to hit store shelves on October 6th, will precede the DVD release by seven weeks. Those DVD fans who don't wish to wait until November 24th will be happy to hear that the Blu-ray release will include the DVD version as well, so you get both formats in one release!

Bob Chapek, president of Disney, commented that the Blu-ray/DVD combo format would provide owners "another opportunity to maximize their viewing options. With today's technological breakthroughs found in Blu-ray, we are confident that this version of 'Snow White' will easily become the reference point for high-definition home entertainment libraries and family collections all over the world."

When initially released on DVD in 2001, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' became the first Disney animated classic to sell 1 Million copies in a single day. Hopes are high at the house of mouse that a similar record will be witnessed with this new Platnium release, except this time on the Blu-ray format.

The new release will feature several all-new bonus features that weren't included on the 2001 release.

Looks like Disney finally got the message regarding those 2 day early releases.

I expect more studios to follow...

I predict loud and irrational complaints on Ultimate Disney in 3, 2, 1...

Ballsy move. Not only will this help disc sales for that title, but also player sales.

I think Disney is making a very clear statement to consumers.

That's what I call a gap between releases. If anyone thinks the studios aren't going to try and help with the phase out of DVD, they're kidding themselves.

This is fantastic, but I think it was expected anyway.

You would be surprised by reading some of the comments around this forum and others. It seems like some people would rather watch SD than HD on optical discs

Great news, but hopefully Disney is smart enough to play up the DVD-included factor. Hardly anyone I know even realised that Bolt Blu-ray included the DVD. (Heck, I still don't understand why they are releasing a DVD standalone..... legal obligations?)

Since this release includes a dvd version of the movie as well as the blu-ray, it looks to me like it is just another attempt at charging even more money for a re-release of a very old film. The "gutsy" move would be if they did this and there was NO dvd version included - but then even Disney isn't quite that unrealistic.

The BD releases of Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio also included the DVD.

Bingo!

Kids see Snow White on Blu-ray and "Sorry, you can't buy the $17 DVD version but instead here is the $28 Blu-ray with bonus DVD!" Poor move IMO. Drop the DVD and we have something but by including it they just want more $ faster.

I just think advertising should be better. Bolt had pretty weak advertising, I mean they did mention a combo pack, but for like 2 seconds. They should make trailers exclusive for the Blu-ray release to talk about the highlights of Blu-ray, and that they can a combo pack to prepare for getting a Blu-ray player, as it includes a DVD version of the film as well.

I'm sure Snow White will have to, but just saying about past advertisements. I was quite upset though, when I saw Disney had yet to remove the Monsters Inc trailer from Bedtime Stories.

Nope, I actually know more than a few people who bought the Blu-ray release of Pinocchio, despite not having a player yet. They want Blu-ray, and they know that by the time they get a Blu-ray player the title won't be available anymore, so they plan ahead. But while they wait, they can watch the DVD now.
