I do not like it:

"Eliminate ¿Black Bars¿ with intuitive zoom controls"

If it eliminate black bars, it will either eliminate some of the movie or change the aspect. $700 for something that mess with the movie (even if not enforcing it)? No thank you...

Probably a better place for this is the HT Gear forum? Just doesn't seem very "HD Smackdowny"

I don't really know why, but upscaling boxes like this are incredibly expensive (we have a couple for professional use at my job). I think it may be as simple economics rather than anything having to do with how well it does what it does. It exists for a very specific purpose, and you can't do it without one, so sky's the limit.

The info on Amazon's placeholder is pretty weak. Below is a better description of what this device does. As far as price goes this is cheap when comparing to other stand alone video processors on the market (most are 3K plus). This product is not yet finished and hasn't been released to the general public. I am currently beta testing one for DVDO but I have signed a NDA so i can't give any info. These products are mainly for making SD look a lot better but they do give the user individual picture controls for each input (brightness, contrast, ect..) which helps when the user wants to calibrate each input.

Wow, if you knew anything about external video processors, you'd know that the DVDO will be huge (as huge as external VP's can be. ). That kind of quality hasn't been touched under $2k MSRP before.

Considering it has the video processing abilities (as far as pure PQ goes) of this, now note the MSRP. It simply can't touch that one because it completely lacks tweaking ablility. The Edge is basically Plug and Play.

Oh yeah, it's the same video processing that the Oppo 983 uses, except now it can be used for Cable, Movies, Video Game Systems, Home Video's... Anything with acceptable inputs!

Here's some other High End VP's, just so you have an idea what they cost.

Things like this are used extensively in the production realm...When you are using projection to blow SD signals up large enough to fit 10.5' x 14' screens, they become a valued piece of equipment.

Plus, you rent it out to your client at 4, 5 or 600.00 a show, and it doesn't take long to recoup it's cost.
