Default Paramount Offers $10 Discount for Blu-ray Upgrade

Link

Quote:
Paramount Home Entertainment is set to offer DVD collectors a $10 rebate when they upgrade select Paramount and DreamWorks titles to Blu-ray Disc.

Mail-in certificates will be available in the packages for Blu-ray copies of Transformers, The Godfather, Old School, Stardust, Sweeney Todd and Zodiac. To receive the $10 savings, consumers must fill out the certificate and include the proof-of-purchase tabs from both the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the title, along with the receipt for the Blu-ray version. The purchase must be made by Dec. 31, 2009, and rebate requests must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2010.

Transformers streets on Blu-ray Sept. 2, with The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration due Sept. 23 and Sweeney Todd Oct. 21.

Street dates for Blu-ray versions of Old School, Stardust and Zodiac have not yet been announced.
It's only 10 bucks but probably more than what you would get if you sold it on ebay.

What do you guys think? Is it a good deal?

This sounds like a decent program, once the pricing gets past the exorbitant new release blu-ray prices. Picture buying one of these movies on blu-ray on sale to replace your old sd-dvd and getting $10 back? And you still have the SD-DVD to keep or tag-sale or whatever? Sounds pretty good to me, if it is a movie you really wanted to replace in high def.

It's a great deal, especially since I can still sell my DVD on ebay.

Sounds like a decent offer. May even get some HD DVD folks to double dip.

thats what i thought, unless its just a oversight on the part of the original article. you would think they would be touting this for hd dvd owners.

in anycase its glad to see paramount is following disneys lead in offering standard dvd owners a little encouragement to upgrade

you would think considering how much a lot of us standard dvd owners paid for the godfather trilogy when it was first released on dvd years ago , and the cost of the new blurays of the trilogy comming out that for that title they might have offerd a 20 dollar rebate

I have a feeling they are saying if you buy the new Godfather restoration on standard DVD and then decide to upgrade to Blu, that is where the rebate comes in. Not on previous Godfather releases.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be dying to cut the upc code off the back of their Blu-Rays.
You have to include BOTH upc codes from the dvd and the bd.
I'll pass.

Well, it might encourage us to get into blu-ray sooner to enjoy some of our older sd-dvd titles in high def that were never available in hd-dvd? I'm not worried about replacing hd-dvd's with a blu-ray as there is little point to that for most of us. I also have to believe this includes replacing older dvd releases of these titles with a blu-ray (which hopefully is why they do not require a receipt for the dvd version of the titles to get the $10?). Reading the link provided by the OP makes it seem that way to me.

Wish this worked with HD-DVD. I'd use this on Xformers and this might convince me to swap Warriors and Shrek 3. (I'll pass on Norbit).

Can someone clear this up for me?

So we have to have purchaed the DVD version of the new Coppola Restorations and the Blu-Ray version in order to get the rebate? Or can we have the previous Godfather trilogy DVD boxed set (the black and gold one). That is upgrading my copy of the trilogy to Blu-Ray, dammit!

i had the same thought back when sony was doing the buy two movies get one free in the mail promo a while back. then someone pointed out its not the big barcode on the back but rather the little tab in the corner so you barely notice it.
