The A2 is a pretty solidly built machine but the X-A1 is a Panzer and in my opinion still the best looking hi-def player.

The A2 is the cheapest built component out of all the gear in my rack.

As for the the XA-1, you are entitled to your opinion, but I do not agree (as far as looks, but the thing is definitely built like a Panzer.. And not just any Panzer, but a Tiger):

IDK... The only issues I had with the A2 was the slight squeek it makes opening and closing the tray (A30 fixes this), other than that the housing was very solid and the unit in general had a quality feel. Between that and the drive noise produced by the P1400 I'd say the A2 looks really good.

As far as the A1... I was not at all impressed on looks... The second and third generation HD DVD players were much better looking (I prefer the second generation lines though). On the BD side, I'm not sure as of yet...

When the door closed it looked great with my Harman Kardon receiver. I didn't know if the Tiger Tank would have the name recognition. I actually typed that first. I think it required a two man lift to put it in my AV rack.

here's the catch.. this $400 baby wont do 100% of Universal's DTS HD MASTER LOSSLESS tracks -

    • Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Processing

    MP3 Playback - No
LPCM - Yes, w/HDMI bitstream out
Dolby Digital - Yes, w/HDMI bitstream out
    Dolby Digital Plus - Yes
Dolby TrueHD - Yes, w/HDMI bitstream out
    DTS-HD - Yes
    SA-CD - No

DTS HD Master lossless nada in the list

come to think of it, is there any BD player (except Denon's multimillion dollar player) that can do DTS HD Master that Universal put in their BD titles ?

Wrong. The S350 can bitstream DTS-HD-MA to a receiver for decoding. As can the Samsung 1400, the Samsung 1500, the Funai players (Magnavox, Insignia, Sylvania, etc), the Phillips 7200 player, and the Panasonic BD30 (not sure if I am missing any others).

And oh yeah the PS3 can decode DTS-HD-MA as well as the upcoming Panasonic BD50 and the upcoming Sony S550 as well as the upcoming Samsung 2500. I am sure I am missing others too (Pioneer, etc).

Where do you get your information from? Every review of this player states it can handle DTS HD MA.

Incidentally, this audio format was being used by Fox a long time before Universal got anywhere near it - i'm pretty sure it's on every BD disc Fox have ever produced.
DVD: over 2150. BD: About 750. HD DVD: 80ish.
    PS3 Slim (region B), XBox360 with add-on (X2) , Sony BDP-760 (Region B), Sony BDP-350 (Region B), Sony BDP-350 (Region A), Panasonic DMP-BD35 (Multiregion), Limit BDP-M100 (Multiregion), Panasonic DMP-BD-110 (Multiregion).

The Panasonic BD50 is already for sale at several retailers. Circuit City has it for sale. But I'm waiting for BestBuy since I have $200 in reward ZOne dollars plus 10% off. But even that would still require $340 out of my pocket for the BD50. It sounds like the S350 will be a good value for people.
