You make a lot of sense, as if you have an HD DVD player and can decode the TrueHD track, there is no point in spending money on a BD version with an identical video/audio encode. I do not understand why HD DVD owners who keep their players want to get a BD version when the HD DVD version is far cheaper, but that's just me.
I'm happy because I don't have
and I'm glad to see it on

Decoding TrueHD has never been a problem on HD DVD which is basically the reason for it's popularity on the format. PCM was too wasteful and DTS-HD/MA wasn't supported by any player that didn't bitstream so the choice for lossless audio on HD DVD was fairly obvious. I just rewatched this movie again finally with full lossless audio support (A30 decoding to 605 on HDMI) and I have to say I'm still impressed by this release.
I think those of you who are only blu and will be picking this title up for the first time are in for a real treat.Toshiba 55" 55HT1U LCD (1080p@24fps) w/Tivo HD, Harmony 880

Weeell....not quite.
HD DVD could not decode TrueHD to 5.1 at launch. It could decode it to 2 channel ONLY.
By contrast, Blu-ray had PCM audio AT LAUNCH and maintained a consistantly higher percentage of lossless audio compared to HD DVD.
Blu-ray has always spanked HD DVD at lossless audio. -

Has anyone else noticed that despite the HD Extras and supplimentals being EXACTLY the same on the Blu-Ray version (exclusing the Blu-Ray exclusive Dark Knight trailer, which didn't exist when the HD DVD version came out), the Blu-Ray version of Batman Begins has SLIGHTLY lower scores in these areas (as reviewed on this site).
Doesn't really matter though

You guys really need to figure out what your argument is.
If it's that HD DVD evolved with updates, so everything it EVENTUALLY achieved counts towards launch day, the same can be said for the PS3.
If it's that HD DVD could do PIP on launch day, then you have to acknowledge that it COULDN'T do lossless 5.1 on launch day.
Make up your mind. -

I bet the reason is very similar to the reasons for PQ and AQ ratings being "artifically" high for early HDM releases. I think this title was realeased early enough that there just wasn't a great basis for comparison, as the products developed things get better and now all of the sudden you find reviewers just expecting more from their HDM releases.

You need to realize when someone is making an argument vs. pointing out facts... Facts are that TrueHD was the obvious choice for lossless audio on HD DVD, this is true since every HD DVD player including your A1 (after firmware update) properly supported it. I'm not arguing, these are the facts... But tell you what, since I've got the day off I'm going to go to the pool and if you want to argue about it feel free to do so on your own

Yea, one piece of kit for a lowly $180 compared to nonupgradable buggy BD hardware that cost 2 to 3 times as much. The add-on was simply a taste of what high def could provide for 360 owners, hardly considered to be the be all, end all purchase for high def enthusiasts (but easily a stopgap while folks might have been waiting for lower standalone prices). Standalones proved to be the requirement for LA with HD DVD.
Enjoy yer swim, Craz. -
