I think its worth saying now that I am starting my new Blu Ray collection that Im suprised how many discs I have that already have BD-live function. Samsung had better come through with the profile update or they will be giving me what ever player they make that does.
I think the point of the thread is still valid even if all people want to do is argue but it goes like this if I buy a player I want it to do everything the discs i buy for it can. Considering I stopped buying movies right afte the HD-DVD demise its been tough and really I have to imagine there are quite a few out there like myself.
The idea was to look at the BD Live Ready legally. They can not claim in press releases before and after a product launch that this unit will do this function and then also put its label on the side of the box and not think its misleading if it can never play BD live. Ultimately it is false advertising if the player cannot do what is advertised. Knowing this you can buy a player that is BD Live ready now and start enjoying HDM again and if you are willing then fight for what is yours if they do infact do not role out bd live to the BD Live Ready players.
btw the blue cases .... do they seem tacky to anyone else i mean atleast make it dark blue or black for crying out loud. doh well
If anyone has any legal experiance on this I would suggest you chime in as that input would be priceless.BD+ is a violation of consumer rights

Not a lawyer, but I would be shocked if Samsung did not fulfill their promise and offer a 2.0 (BD Live) firmware update this Fall. As you mentioned, it is on the box when you buy the player. They mention in their press release. They state it on their website. So all evidence points to Samsung offering said firmware update in time for the big holiday shopping season. If they do not offer the update, it sounds to me like they could have a class action lawsuit on their hands.
If I can get this player for $200 or less this holiday season I will most likely grab one. -

Interesting tidbit for all you folks who like to poke around inside of mechanical devices like I do. The BD-P1500 has four 1 Gbit DDr2 SDR chips internally equaling 512 Megabytes of internal storage. Now I dont believe this is all necessarily for permanent storage as I believe this is may be what is used for disc caching and running the BD-Java apps. However I could be wrong there I have yet to do a full evaluation of the chips internally but I will tell you this its the same board as the BD-P5500.
This makes me wary and not so wary about its possible BD live functionality. If having HD-DVD and internet capability in the same board as the 5500 and that board is in the 1500 maybe both the 5500 and the 1500 will be upgradeable ORRR maybe since the 5500 has not been announced to get bd live maybe neither are capable.BD+ is a violation of consumer rights

Yeah, I think that 1GB is required so if what you say is true then I guess a USB stick will in fact be required to enable Live funtionality... Damnet all to heck. Well, we'll see what the state of BD-live players is like around black friday, the 1500 is still looking like the best SA deal out there, but maybe panny will supprise us and over the BD50 at bargin price
(yeah friggen right).

The DMP-BD50 is the first standalone Blu-ray player that is compatible with Blu-ray Profile 2.0, also known as BD-Live. This means it's capable of accessing Internet-enabled features available on some movies, such as Rambo and Walk Hard. You'll need to have an empty SD card handy to access these features--the lack of built-in memory feels cheap at this price point--and your DMP-BD50 will have to be connected to the Internet via Ethernet. -
