Too bad that doesn't change the fact that toshiba is no longer developing HW for the format, nor is anyone else and no one is developing software for the format.... So uhhh, I guess if you want to feel warm and fuzzy about the DVD forum technically approving changes to the HD DVD spec, then by all means....

Doesn't change the fact that bluray is the only HDM left on the market.

I wonder if MSFT will purchase the hd dvd assets and use it for their next console and have hd dvd burning for saving downloads.

Who knows. All I know is hd dvd is dead.

I doubt this very highly, it would not be a good thing for microsoft to run what would amount to an entirly propriatary format on the next x-box... Next gen should be bluray for both consoles.

the advantage to using HD DVD on the Xbox720, with no one using drives that can read the disks, who's going to pirate those discs? think about is though, Sony has a history of using a new optical formats with every console if this holds true then the PS4 will have even greater storage capacity and the xbox will stay 1 generation behind in terms of optical storage.

WinDVD 9 still supports the HD DVD format. Corel has stated that it will continue to support it in any update to 9, therefore, guidelines still need to be in place whether or not Corel actually intends to develop the software further or leave it as is.

Isn't CH-DVD a form of HD-DVD? So therefore, the market for it would be over a billion in China.

EDIT: Sorry, found out it supports HD-DVD Advanced Content applications

The DVD forum handed CH-DVD management over to a chinese body, they're no longer involved.

I think ch-dvd is great. Let china fester in their own cesspool of piracy. Give them an incentive to actually bring it under control - or allow their own businesses to hurt
