Maybe you should ask HP? And Acer? Since they are the ones you don't seem to understand and are making grandiose claims about.
The fact is that the Acer says ROM underneath in the picture and doesn't say anything about your vaporware.
As for HP, I don't pretend to understand what they are trying to say. All I know is that you spend wwwwaaaayyyy too much time looking for this crap. I believe the medical term is called obsessive. -

DVD Super Multi Drives are not 3xDVD, they're an LG trademark:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_MultiSuper Multi is an informal term used to describe a type of CD and DVD recorder that writes CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R/DVD-RW, DVD+R/DVD+RW and DVD-RAM formats. Some recorders are also able to write DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL formats.
This term was coined by LG and is now officially protected by LG. It is also used by NEC for some of their products. LiteOn uses the term "Super AllWrite" instead, which essentially has the same meaning.
With Super Multi drives you cannot write:
* DD-CD-R discs
* DD-CD-RW discs
* PD discs
* DVD-R for Authoring discs
* BD-R Discs
* DVD-RW DL discs
* DVD+RW DL discs
They usually do not support HD-BURN or GigaRec either. Overburning may or may not be possible.
Smackdown #1 complete!
I'll just let the actual specs as shown disprove this one. Again:
Note that the VR spec doesn't yet have a logo at the DVD Forum - nor does the document I posted. This might be it.
You can bring up the high rez version here and zoom in...Probably says "rec" or "red" or some such thing under the HD DVD logo.
http://translate.google.com/translat...f%26as_qdr%3Dmhttp://www.trustedreviews.com/notebo...rings/commentsDo I spy HD-DVD playback on the 2930? Is this a pre-production model or the result of Acer supporting the wrong side in the format war?
The production version I saw at the press event didn't have this, so I'd chalk it up as a mistake.The emergence of a single, high-definition format is cause for consumers, as well as the entire entertainment industry, to celebrate.

EDIT: NM.
Since Mike has thus far had every single attempt to prove HD DVD is still coming to the consumer shot down to the point where he's now blatantly making up trademarks, can the mods just lock the thread? This is ridiculous.Last edited by zombieflanders; 07-31-2008 at 08:19 AM.

But it's so entertaining! I need my morning fix of Mike getting his ass handed to him on a platter.

Well he has no interest in HDM, he only has an interest in seeing it's destruction, so can you really be surprised when he comes on here talking about how his toaster can do Hi-Def and is going to blow Blu-ray away? I honestly don't know why he keeps coming back, can't he start up IhateHDM.com or something? I'm sure that Xboxboi will join that site too as well as any other bitter HD DVD fanboys...

that is where you and I are in full agreement, I love debate, I love finding out new information about HDM, during the format war things were interesting, but now the industry is working towards establishing Blu-ray as the new standard, sure small formats will pop up but if the industry isn't looking for something new chances are it'll fall flat on it's face.
