If you have both players, why does this matter?? Even if HD DVD failed tomorrow, I would still have all of my disks to watch. (and yes, I do still run my Amiga 4000T from time to time. )

i disagree, safer or not, it does not matter

it's not like when one format loses, the players of this format will vanish themselves.

go with the format that has the best spec, that is HD DVD.

HD DVD is the underdog because it's getting its' ass kicked by blu-ray right now. Not that hard to figure out man.

i really dont know about that cuz i bought the departed for 10 dollars chepaer than the hd dvd at CC and then i had my friend come over who has the hd dvd version of it (i have both players). so we tested them both out and we didnt notice any difference at all in PQ since they both are VC-1. and uncompressed audio on the departed was better than truehd. so if a scanner darkly has the same PQ use, then i guess buy it on whatever the format label looks better with (which in thise case is the blu-ray version which i'm gonna buy!).
