    Default Who Owns James Bond??

Just a question, as I know that Universal has the distribution rights for the MGM catalogue of the 1960's and before, and someone else (SONY?) owns the post-60's stuff, where does that place the Bond films? Will the Connery Bond be HD DVD and the Brosnan Bond be Blu-ray?? Just a question.

Sony owns Casino Royale (2006), the rest of the catalog is controlled by Fox via MGM. The Bond films were United Artists, not MGM. The pre-1986 MGM films are owned by Warner, not Universal.

The short answer is that the Bond films will come from Fox.

All I know is that I waited to buy all the Bond movie box sets on DVD, and would buy all of them in a heartbeat on HD.. The Bond movies, to me, are classics and I cannot wait for these to be released. Imagine Bond in lossless...

Keep in mind that not all the pre-1986 titles are Warner. They own quite a lot of the pre-1986 MGM catalogue, but United Artists and others are still under MGM's control and will be distributed by Fox on Blu-ray.

All James Bond movies are Fox/MGM except Casino Royale and the upcoming Bond 22, which is as yet untitled.

The recent Bond SD DVD remasters are excellent (I believe you can pick up certain titles for $9.99 each at Best Buy). It would be difficult for Fox to bungle a high def release if they use the same master... but I wouldn't put it past them.

Yeah, my standard def Bond DVDs look great. The upconversion really makes them look truly amazing. Seeing all the Bond films in high definition would be a treat to see, but would it really be worth it to buy them?

Goldfinger and Goldeneye would (at least for me )

Oh, the recent SD DVD masters also have excellent DTS tracks.

I'm sure we'd have to wait at least until the new Bond film comes to theaters before a new (hopefully) HD boxset comes out for Blu ray. So thats what, at least 4 years or so?
    HD DVD: 20
    Combo: 3
    BD: 14
