From what I remember from various releases the "included with PS3" is a rebate or coupon, not the actual disc, so that should be no. Given how Sony does "sold" I may be more inclined to wait for NPD numbers and not "shipped to retailers". I want to be clear, I don't doubt they sold a lot, the reference I made earlier is that selling Bond to PS3 owners is like crack to an addict, but no official news is still no news.

Sorry to gloat a little but remember this post?

Although I do admit at that time I was unsure of the period
Still doing the high end of this estimate is a good sign for Blu-ray.
Cheers (fresh from the monoplex...)

You mean the Nielsen numbers. NPD gives data about hardware, Nielsen about sold software. On Fridat we will have the Nielsen numbers for the week ended March 18 which include 5 days with Casino Royale. It's not until the next Friday we will have numbers and possibly a report from Nielsen about the whole first week for Casino Royale.

If this were true it would be about time to pack up shop for HD DVD. If a movie like Casino Royale can do 100,000 first week, I can't imagine what POTC 3 and Spiderman 3 will do.

No Casino Royal for the Playstation 3 is included because first you have to registry on-line to get it and if they were included the number would have been over 500,000. Maybe some of the European Casino Royale sold to people that do not intend to buy the PS3 are included but Casino Royale got released March 19 here in Europe so it would only be one day because first week would be March 13-March 19 but I think that is unlikely and even so it would not matter much.

I guess I shouldn't have doubted you, kali.

Since the format war is now just about over I would be willing to buy HD DVD movies from people who are looking to upgrade to Blu-Ray. I'll give you $5-10 a movie depending on the title.

I still don't understand why BD folks can't just be happy - the movie sold well. Good! It's just that you're not going to see HD fold any time soon: why is this so hard to accept? Lots of movies coming out this spring and summer, prices dropping - it's just not happening any time soon. Enjoy your investment! Some of you do sound ignorant, though, if you assume HD is going to give up so soon.
I'm glad to see the high def format is catching on a bit more, but 100,000 is still a drop in the bucket compared to SDVD. Casino Royale is doing well, though, no doubt about it. -

If this is true, and it looks like it is, then.... aw heck, I don't even need to say it anymore do I?

I understand your perspective, but this is significant from a PR/marketing perspective. If the media announces something like a 10:1 advantage for Blu-Ray in March and with the upcoming releases of the POTC and Spiderman movies, the media may help move many of the fence sitters and the image of HD DVD may be tarnished with the general public.
There are many people in many places that honestly want to see one format win, and win sooner than later. While I do not feel that Casino Royale alone will end the war, if Blu-Ray continues to dominate in movie sales, the general public may view the war as over... -

The trick is that Blu-Ray can't bunch too many big hits together at one time, so that it won't be a sales spike, but a consistant selling arc. Also, some people will only buy 1 or 2 movies a month, and that needs to be considered. If Blu-Ray releases too quickly, then it could backfire. On the other hand, it could also utterly slaughter HD DVD if lot's of people buy in at once.
I can't wait until the HD DVD fanboys pull out Toshiba's quote of there only being "30,000 Blu-Ray players sold", and therefore Blu-Ray fans are buying multiple copies of the movie each in order to create a false high sales volume for the movie... either that or HD DVD player owners are getting confused by the lack of content on their machine and are getting desperate for new movies to watch. Because as we all know, the PS3 affect doesn't exist

Bush has the same exit strategy advisors as HD-DVD...

joking aside though, I'm happy. I bought a PS3 strickly for gaming.. but love the fact it plays HD movies... so of course, now I lean towards BluRay, simply becauase I can't afford both formats (kudos to those who can..). :O
though, from what i've seen from hardcore hd'ers (basically, forum peeps) there seem to be more bluray only lovers than hd-dvd only lovers... with people who support hd-dvd, but also own blurays, basically cuz they have to in order to get the movies they want. This post has been approved by ~Cieljek~

Funny, I've always used that line of thought when it came to Amir sending cronies out to buy up all the HD movies in stores and posting on message boards that they're all sold out but Blu-Ray is fully stocked.I can't wait until the HD DVD fanboys pull out Toshiba's quote of there only being "30,000 Blu-Ray players sold", and therefore Blu-Ray fans are buying multiple copies of the movie each in order to create a false high sales volume for the movie...
