Default Image Entertainment Cancels HD DVD Releases

Image Entertainment has canceled its entire remaining HD DVD release slate. Though an official statement is still forthcoming, a company spokesperson has told us that a written press release, due in the next several days, will confirm an end to their HD DVD support.

Among the titles affected by the change are 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead' and several IMAX films.

Amazing how three months ago this would have been minor news, but with Paramount done, and Universal done in less than two weeks...well

...Warner may not just be the last MAJOR studio supporting HD-DVD but the ONLY studio

Just curious: Is that 'fireplace' and 'aquarium' HD DVD discs still suppose to be coming out?? Was this suppose to be released by Image as well??

those two titles are apparently from a group called Navarre Corporation

but this leaves HD-DVD with 27 titles left coming out

True, the fanatics are rather obsessed. Give it a rest, people.

Im wondering when did HD DVD players and movies stop playing or working?
I mean -- my player plays perfectly still and I still have 100+ plus more HD DVD's to buy at $10 or less.

As for that dude, another Blu-Ray title is coming out pressed as a 25GB disc for $39.99 and DRM up the wazoo. But wait, to be fair, he beats all of us on the fact that his Blu-Ray movie is SCRATCH RESISTANT ! how lucky!

Man, Blu-Ray is so much better than HD DVD !!!!!!!
Long Live HD DVD

You're embarrassing yourself.

But you're a LOLler, so I guess it's to be expected.

Long Live HD DVD
There is a self destruct routine built into all HD DVD players which is set to activate on April 1, 2008.

Wow. That means you plan to spend around $1000 (at least) on a dead format?

All format bashing aside (not from you obviously) I have a working LD player, why would I go spend $1000 on movies to play on it?

I guess I just don't get it. Sure your player works, so does mine. Sure you can get working players, so can I.

It sounds like you don't care. But picture this, 6 years from now standing and looking at a rack of 100+ movies, your player for those movies just broke, you can't buy any new movies on the format (the MOST current movie you have is 6 years old), and you have to go to ebay to buy a used player to play said movies.

That is where you will be, maybe not in 6 years, maybe in 2, maybe in 10.

That is where I am with my LD collection, except for the fact that my player works (because I havent used it in over 3 years).

TBH we are all "throwing money away" on this hobby, but to dump $1000+ into a dead format. Could you just explain that to me?

Obviously you can do what you want, but besides rabid fanboyism (or Sony hate, take your pick) what is your reasoning?

If your reasoning is "I just like movies" I guess that works on some level. But if that is your explanation, I would imagine you would have a BR player to enjoy the numerous BR exclusives. But that does not sound like the case.

Please, educate me.
