With SI as they are 100:89.25 I get sales of around 29,791 BD to 6,759 HD or 4.4:1.

If the SI was 100:87.75 I get sales of around 64,229 BD to 23,072 HD or 2.8:1. That would be a lot more plausible.
But if Amazons sales numbers are not included in Nielsens, the other shops should get a drop in sales but this does not explain the drop for HD-DVD.

I'm wondering where the BIG Amazon.com effect is left?
Of course Nielsen Numbers include Amazon. com, this was already mentioned several times on AVS forum.
We will have to see what the numbers will be when Casino Royale will be included next week.
But as I said, 500 units per day the first 3 days on Amazon isn't that impressive.
    Lets just wait and see!
I'm wondering what else the BDA should do to increase the ratio of 2:1 YTD.
Maybe give the movies away for free!?

No, that is what Toshiba does

I'm wondering how does a format with 200,000+ users sell only ~6000 discs in a week? Not to mention less than 6,000 new users, since you would expect new users to buy at least one disk?

Either the Nielsen numbers are bogus or HD DVD is in some real trouble.

I'm wondering how does a format with 2.000,000+ users sell only 30k discs in a week?

And where did you pull 2 million from exactly? There are just over 1 million PS3s sold in US, and what % of those are going to be dedicated to Blu-ray like 100% of HD DVD players?
    got Blu?

Did they provide any sources for this information? I really want to know but I haven't seen any evidence for either way.

You must have missed this on the bottom of the videoscan numbers:

"Point-of-Sale data is collected weekly and projected nationally for the U.S. bricks-and-mortar sales channel."

I'm wondering how HD-DVD can even survive the summer when selling only 5000 discs each week!

The next week should get even worse for HD-DVD with the release of Casino Royale. If it sells about double what The departed did, that's 50k units (CR) +20k (the rest of blu-ray)....

if Hd-DVD sales numbers remain flat (which they probably would since no new releases came out), then that's a sales ratio in Blu-ray's favor of 12:1!!!!!

Isn't that what some rumors here were saying, that they were pulling HD-DVD from shelves?

I think the brick stores know something we don't

Another article about the Nielsen numbers. This one is in PCmag.com:

Blu-ray Clearly Leading in Next-Gen DVD Sales

One interesting thing is this quote:

NPD Group have said they intend to provide the number of sold players on quarterly basis so we will get an update within one month.

Hehehe, a lot to laugh again, thats entertaining here, brilliant!

I'm wondering how Blu-Ray can even survive the summer when selling only 25000 discs each week!

So it seems that a crappy gaming console (PS3) and one movie with a bad bond in it (Casino Royale) is the only hope for Blu-Ray?
At least that is what the guys from camp BD always repeat.

Even if the ratio for the CR release will result in 12:1 (what I seriously doubt a lot) there will be no winner or loser of the format war at all.
Things will be much longer than any of us would like.

Whatever happens, it really makes a lot of fun whats going on here, thank you all for that much of entertaining!

    What do you think?

I think HD-DVD is a dead format walking, honestly...you get the Hd-DVD supporters who keep "wishing" it would last longer, and sure you'll still get HD-DVD releases going forward, perhaps until end of this year, but the writing is most definitely on the wall for how this war will end.

selling 5k units with no new blockbuster releases in sight to alleviate the problem pretty much says it all.....

honestly, what has HD-DVD shown ? i mean, it can't even beat blu-ray on popular same-title releases like the Departed, where the Blu-ray version is on #80+ and the Hd-DVD version is at #350., and it was even worsr than that yesterday (#50 versus #500)

CR broke the Top 10 of amazon, is beating the FS SD-DVD version of casino royale (!), and probably will sell more HD discs in a week than anything before it...what does HD-DVD have to look forward to? Those mythical cheapo chinese players?
