Yes, we all know by now that Casino Royale has cracked the top 10 at amazon.com and probably peaked at #9.
But instead of discussing that, which has been discussed in at least 3 other threads... Lets ask our HD DVD supporters, no matter how insignificant the importance of this question is according to them.... When and what title will put an HD DVD into the top 10 at amazon.com!?!?!? |

I think "The Jerk" will not only break the Top 10 but will also break the Top 5 on Amazon.

The real deal would be ...how long can remain as a top ten????
I remember when Nora Jones's firt album stayed for weeks as #1 in the Amazon's best sellers cd's. The rest...is just a joke. Let's see first how long this one will remain there, and then after that I will try to get in on this pissing contest thread too. |

Looking at the HD DVD release schedule:
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html I am not seeing anything that will break the Top 10 most likely. There are some good titles there that will sell well, but I am not sure they are Top 10 material. That said, Casino Royale may be the biggest release for Blu-Ray this year. As somebody else mentioned in another thread selling Bond to PS3 owners is like selling crack to an addict.. |

I'm surprised the Marine isn't in the top ten.

Yeah after this week, lets see where Casino Royale bluray is on the charts, it will be up there initially but after that, everyone that doesnt own a bluray player will keep the REGULAR DVD in the top spot for some time, people that want the bluray version will buy it now and then it will drop like a rock off the charts, this movie isnt going to be that big of a seller for very long and will most likely not even hit a million copies sold, come back when a big HD title (on either format) starts selling more than a couple thousand copies, otherwise just buy what you want and watch it, be happy while regular DVD trounces anything else for the next 5 years at least
I'm glad I only spent $200 on my 360 addon, that way if both formats go bye bye I didnt fork out a ton to go with bluray, I really dont see either of these lasting past a few years unless numbers REALLY start changing and the differences are more than a couple thousand copies of a new release, DVD will crush both of these for a long time and I wouldnt be surprised if these go the way of laserdiscs in the near future |

Don't you know? It's cool to hijack any thread you want.
I'd agree that HArry Potter would have a shot at cracking the top ten. |

The next blockbuster title for Blu-ray is Night at the Museum, it will be interesting to follow its sales rankings.
For HD DVD to crack Amazon's top ten, with an exclusive release, they would need something like a Spielberg movie - which seems to be eluding HD DVDs grasp these days.

I don't think any movie already released on DVD will sell as well as a day and date and that includes the pirates movies.
I think Pirates 3 will hit DVD and Blu-ray before Christmas 2007 - that should crack the top 10. Spiderman 3 will hit DVD and Blu-ray before Christmas 2007, I think that stands a chance as well. |

Excellent point Doby. I think Pirates 3 will definitely be in the top 10 for Blu-ray. Same for Spider-Man 3. Just think of how much bigger Blu-ray's installed base will be come November. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony bundled Spidey 3 with the PS3 to really boost sales.
